Smoke Signals 3 MAY 1,2013 Tribe creates Enrollment Audit hotline The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde has created an Enrollment Audit hotline with which to collect frequently asked questions from the Tribal membership. The goal of the hotline is to develop a list of commonly asked questions regarding the audit information that was distributed in the April Tilixam VVawa. The answers to those questions will be published in an upcoming Tilixam Wawa, as well as be distributed to the membership in an infor mation packet. ToilbaD GovetriroinrDeirDft Day sett ffor fiVSay 9 Cultural exhibits, displays will highlight annual event By Dean Rhodes Smoke Signals editor SALEM The annual Tribal Government Day at the State Capi tol will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 9. The event is sponsored by the Legislative Commission on Indian Services and endeavors to teach state employees and regular Orego nians about Oregon's nine federally recognized Tribes. Tribal Council member Cheryle A. Kennedy is the Grand Ronde Tribe's representa tive on the commission. A morning reception featuring a continental breakfast will kick off the day starting at 8:30 a.m. The meal will be sponsored by the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe. Tribes will show cultural exhibits and displays this year instead of informational tables. An opening reception will begin at 9 a.m., featuring flags, drums, an invocation and welcome cer emony. The Siletz Tribe's feather dancers are tentatively scheduled to perform. At 10:45 a.m., Gov. John Kit zhaber is scheduled to sign the annual American Indian Week proclamation. American Indian Week in Oregon will be observed from Sunday, May 12, through Saturday, May 18. Grand Ronde Canoe Family members are scheduled to perform between 11:15 and noon. A noon luncheon will be spon sored by the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and served by Spirit Mountain Casino staff. Events are open to the public.
