7 APRIL 15,2012 MOKE SIGNALS 17 Governor thanks By Ron Karten Smoke Signals staff writer Tribal Elder Gene LaBonte recently received a letter of thanks from Gov. John Kit zhaber for his service as a mem ber of the Governor's Veterans' Advisory Committee, which he served for four years, one as chair of the committee in 2009-10. During that time, LaBonte said, "I helped become a liaison for Native Americans to the Veterans Association. That's the biggest thing and I'm very proud of that. "But it's all about the vet erans," he added.
