Rose Lee Teem Dec. 10, 1922 - Feb. 6, 2012 Tribal Elder Rose Lee Teem, 89, peacefully passed away on Feb. 6, 2012, in Santa Rosa, Calif. Second of seven children in the family of Melvin and Edna (Mi chaels) Jeffers, she was born Dec. 10, 1922. In her younger years, Rose lived in Oregon in Crow, Veneta, Wolf Creek and Redmond. After marrying her second husband, she moved to Laytonville in northern California, where she lived the remainder of her life. Rose was a tireless worker, described by her last employer (at a sawmill, where she worked until age 65) as "the hardest working employee I ever had." She garnered the respect and admiration of all who knew her. For years she not only put in eight to 10 hours shift work, but also hauled pickup truckloads of firewood to custom ers after work. Rose was not "all work." She liked playing pinochle and Scrabble. She enjoyed bingo and playing the penny slots. In her younger days, she was a star catcher on the local women's softball team, a very active member of the local Grange and volunteer at many commu nity fundraisers. Rose Lee was very devoted to family. She is survived by her chil dren: Derry Hall (Marilyn) of Cave Junction, Ore., Gail Vladyka (Richard) of Bend, Ore., Darliss Sanderson (Frank) of Redding, Calif., and Kay Colman (Thomas) and Deanna Teem of Laytonville, Calif. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and countless other chil dren to whom she was Grandma Rose. Left, too, are her brothers, Ivan and Dale Jeffers, and sister Elsie Cummings, all of Oregon. Rose was much loved and will be sorely missed. Her inurnment was held at the Laytonville Community Cemetery.
