Smoke Signals 15 JANUARY 1,2012 Computer Workshop Classes in Grand Ronde Jan. 10, 2012 Introduction Microsoft Excel The workshops will be taught by the Northwest Computer Learning Center and will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the computer lab in the Adult Education Building. Cost for the workshop is $150 and eligible Tribal members can apply to the Noncredit Program for assistance with registration costs. Space is limited to the first 15 who register. SAC scDnoDarslhiiips The Oregon Student Assistance Commission is now accepting applications for the 2012 process. OSAC administers more than 400 scholarships through their single application for Oregon students. Students who are members of Oregon Tribes and live out of state are also eligible to apply if they plan on attending college in Oregon. Visit http:getcollegefunds.orgeApp.html to apply. This application has an early bird deadline of Feb. 16, 2012, and a final deadline of March 1. Early bird applicants are entered into a $500 scholarship drawing just for turning their application in early. AISES summer internships The AISES Internship Program provides students with applied work experience and an opportunity to explore career options. Placing students in 10-week summer positions with partner agencies, the program also promotes advanced study to the graduate level and as sists students in developing professional networks. The deadline to apply to the 2012 AISES summer internship program is Feb. 15. 2012 summer interns are being placed with the following partner agen cies: ASRC Federal Holding Company - Greenbelt, MD; AMERIND Risk Management Corporation - Santa Ana Pueblo, NM; Bonneville Power Administration - Portland, OR; U.S. Bureau of Land Management; Life Technologies; U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs - Washington, D.C. and other various locations. New CTGR Higher Education Program deadlines set There are now only two Higher Education programs depending on whether you are full-time or part-time. The deadline for the Full-Time College program is at least 30 days before the start of classes. The deadline for the Part-Time College program is at least 10 days before the start of class. Visit the Tribal Web site for more program information and an application, www.grandronde.orgdepartmentseducationhigher education Graduate Horizons and College Horizons 2012 Graduate Horizons is a four-day admissions workshop for American Indian, Alaskan Native and Native Hawaiian college students, college graduates, and master's students who are preparing to apply for graduate school or professional school. It will be held June 16-19, 2012, at Harvard University. For more information and to apply, visit www.graduatehori zons.org. The 2012 application deadline is Feb. 6. College Horizons is for current 10th- and 1 lth-grade high school students. Students have the opportunity to attend one of two locations and an op portunity to talk with admissions officers from 50 different collegesuni versities from across the nation, learn about the college admissions process and learn about financial aid for college. The 2012 application deadline is Feb 6. Chafee Education and Training Grant The Chafee Education & Training Grant deadline for Spring Term 2012 is Feb. 1. Applicants must currently be in foster care, or have been in foster care for at least 180 days (6 months) after their 14th birthday and exited substitute care at age 16 or older and participate in the voucher program by their 21st birthday. Best Buy scholarship Best Buy will award up to 1,200 students a $1,000 scholarship each. Applicants must be a 9-12 grade student who plans to attend post-secondary education, have solid grades and are involved in community service or work experience.
