Linfield College hosting Native Youth Leadership and Athletic Academy The 2011 Native Youth Leadership and Athletic Academy will be held Monday, June 27, through Thursday, June 30, at Linfield College, 900 S.E. Baker St., McMinnville. Youth will exercise their bodies and their warrior spirits on and off the court and playing field. They will participate in football, bas ketball, weightlifting, traditional games, dance and more, as well as learn about team building, wellness, healthy lifestyle choices, leadership, culture and spirituality. The academy is open to Native youth 12 to 18 years of age who want to create and maintain a healthy life and who are drug-, alcohol- and violence-free. Cost is $475, which includes lodging, all meals, training sessions, a T-shirt, activities and all special events. Instructors include Robert Johnston (Muskogee CreekChoctaw), Wade McGee (Cherokee), Charles Tail Feathers (CreeBlackfeet), Rulan Tangen (Metis) and Jim Warne (Oglala LakotaSioux).
