Is its president. 2006 Tribal Information Day held in Salem focused on Tribal culture and natural resources. Tribal Tourism Coordinator Elaine LaBonte said the important message the Tribe delivered at the event was, "We do still practice what we did before." The event also marked the 10th anniversary of government-to-government relations between Oregon's nine Tribes and the state. 2001 The Tribal campus was continuing to grow. A ground breaking event was held for the planned education complex in Grand Ronde while, simultaneously, work was occurring on a new rodeo grounds. The 1 4 0-by-2 50-foot competition size rodeo grounds will feature two camping areas - one for spectators and one for contes tants, and bleachers to seat the expected crowd. 1996 Gov. John Kitzhaber signed an executive order on State Tribal Government-to-Government relations on May 22 during a special signing ceremony attended by all nine Oregon Tribes. "Our Tribe takes government-to-government relationships seriously," said Grand Ronde Chairman Mark Mercier. "I hope this will be the starting block of an effort between all of us." 1991 Tribal Chairman Mark Mercier and 1991 Junior Miss Grand Ronde Tara Leno presented Willamina Elementary School Principal Joan Rivenbark with a $1,500 check on behalf of the Tribal Council to help purchase computer equipment for the school. 1 986 Tribal Powwow Committee co-chairs Val Grout and Greg Ar chuleta reported that the theme of this year's powwow is Chogoo Kilipie, or "Come Home." Grout and Archuleta were appealing to the Tribal membership to donate $1 each to help pay for the powwow feast. Columbus State honors Tribal member Tribal member Holly Partridge, 31, of Astoria was named Columbus State University's top Political Science student for 2010-11. The award was presented during the university's recent Scholastic Honors Convocation. She is a senior and the daughter of Tribal member Wesley and Ronda Shaw, also of Astoria. Columbus State is about 100 miles southwest of Atlanta, Ga., and has more than 8,200 students attending in a wide variety of degree programs. D Two ttraiiroiDug sessions set ffoir June II 6-1 7 Youth Prevention and Behavioral Health will be presenting two Michael Nerney training sessions on Thursday and Friday, June 16-17, in the Tribal Community Center. Between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Nerney will present "Gender Dif ferences in Communication." Lunch will be provided. And from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Nerney will present "Kids in a Candy Store." H Chinuk Wawa classes offered The Tribal Cultural Education Department offers adult Chinuk Wawa language classes from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday in Room 207 of the Tribal Education Building. B Elder's bingo changes days Bingo at the Elders' Activity Center is held on the second and fourth Fridays of the month.
