As I look back on that year, I realize they made a decision both wise and fair: here is a clear problem, let us turn this over to the people to find a solution. I was a member of that committee, as secretary, along with Vice Chair Diana Norton and Chair Debby Larsen. We spent an exhausting year plus conducting monthly meetings, reaching out to other Tribal members who were knowledgeable andor had experience in this area, and even took to the road. I can't even begin to describe the sheer amount of time each and every one of us committed to this endeavor. And I thank Tribal Council at that time for making the decision to place such a large responsibility on us. The point of this letter is that I disagree with how Leroy Good would have the Tribal Council conduct the election. The recommendation that we made to Tribal Council in 2006 was to have one Constitutional election, one vote. Keep it simple. I understand there are multiple components to an election like this, but if you make any election too complicated, it will fail. I believe that the 2008 Constitutional election was a failure because only one of the three (originally two) amendments even passed, and to be honest the relinquishment period posed the fewest problems of the three of them, meaning most of our work was for nothing. Hopefully, Tribal Council is smart enough to not make the same mistake twice. I am not sure what Tribal Council will ultimately decide. The language they have proposed is a slight tweaking of the recommendations we made. That makes perfect sense to me. Why would you go with a proposal that already failed, even if by small margins? What I know for sure is that right now Tribal Council is trying to remain true to what I and other members of the Enrollment Requirements Ad Hoc Committee recommended they do. It may not be what some people want, but they made a commitment years ago and are sticking to it. I respect them for that. We, as Tribal members, must encourage Tribal Council to support the measures that will resolve the enrollment issues once and for all and heal split families so we can put the enrollment problem behind us forever. These positions are designed and funded for the purpose of pro viding employment experience and meaningful opportunities to local area youth. Youth Crew member Start date: Monday, June 27, 2011 Duration: 7 weeks, 36 hoursweek End date: Friday, Aug. 12, 2011 Pay: $8.50hr Duties: Work as a member of an eight-person work crew. Projects in clude trail construction, habitat enhancement, invasive species removal and other natural resource and community enhancement projects. Qualifications: Must be 16-19 years of age; have the ability or experience to safely and properly use hand tools; be in good physical condition and able to work in rugged outdoor terrain. Interest in or experience in working in the outdoors helpful. Requirements: 1) Furnish own work boots. 2) Complete and pass pre-employment background check and drug test.
