I would like to express thanks on behalf of my Makah III language class, which took a trip to Grand Ronde on April 17-18. We brought a small group of 11 people to share a little bit of Makah culture and demonstrate some work the students have done in the presentation of bilingual legend in puppet show form, as well as another bilingual storybook by our senior student, Synon Allen (granddaughter of Cheryle Kennedy). We wish to give special thanks to Cheryle Kennedy and Jocelyn Huff man for helping us with our accommodations at Spirit Mountain Casino; Bobby Mercier and the singers who greeted us at the plankhouse Sunday evening; and Kathy Cole and her Immersion kindergarten class for the demonstration of Chinuk Wawa; also, Bobby Mercier for the wonderful tour of the canoe project at the museum in Salem. We thank the Confeder ated Tribes of Grand Ronde for the work they are doing in language and cultural activities - so inspirational! We so enjoyed the preschool students, hearing some of your songs and getting to know a little bit more of your history. Also, our group was honored to receive blankets from you we have a memorable trip and left Grand Ronde with good feelings. Again, we just want to say haiyu masee.
