10 MAY 1, 2011 Smoke Signals L Summer credit recovery is back Summer Credit Recovery will be back this summer. If you are a Tribal descendant or Native high school student who failed a class this last school year, then you will be eligible for our program. We will be starting on June 13 and it will run to Aug. 12. The hours for the credit recovery lab will be Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. All other hours will need to be by appointment. Examples of classes we have to offer are Algebra 1, Geometry, Physical Science, U.S. History and English 1. Qualifying students in the Willamina and Sheridan school districts will be eligible, though students from outside the area may be eligible with a letter of commitment from their schools. The cost for the program will be a $50 deposit, which is fully refundable upon completion of the program. Youth Education Elementary K-5 201 1 Summer Program Applications for the upcoming Kindergarten-5th grade Summer Program are now available at the Youth Education building. Completed applications may be submitted to the Youth Educa tion front desk during the week of May 2 to May 6 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This week of enrollment into the program is open to all Tribal, Native and direct-descendant youth whose parents or guardians are currently employed, registered in school or participating in a training program. Applications will not be accepted before this open enrollment time to ensure that all interested and qualifying families and youth have an equal opportunity to sign up and participate. To have an application sent to you, if you need clarification about eligibility or if you have any questions regarding the application, contact Youth Education at 503-879-2101. Chcmckota offers Driver Education Do you have someone getting ready to drive? We are affordable and have classes at convenient locations, dates and times. The program and instructors are endorsed by Oregon Department of Transportation. The goal of the program is to eliminate preventable accidents and to prepare young drivers for a complex driving environment. This traffic safety course includes 34 hours of classroom and 12 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. It will also meet 50 of the 100 documented supervised hours that are required to get a license. The program serves students ages 15 through adult. Cost for students with an Oregon instruction permit who are under 18 is $260, and cost for adults with an Oregon instruction permit andor student with a license is $360. To register, students will need a photocopy of the front and back of their permit or license, a completed enrollment form and payment.
