The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde will host College Goal Oregon from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, in the Adult Educa tion Building. The event is designed to help students and others preparing to at tend college. Attendees should bring their 2009 federal tax returns, 2010 W-2 forms and other financial records. ( Y 'AX s Bruce Raymond Lattin Jan. 19, 1943 - Jan. 7, 2011 Former Spirit Mountain Casino Security Manager Bruce Raymond Lattin passed away on Friday, Jan. 7, due to complications from kidney failure and lung cancer. He was born on Jan. 19, 1943, to Bruce G. and Virginia Young Lattin in Roseburg, Ore. The fam ily moved to Medford and then to Klamath Falls, were he graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1961. Mr. Lattin enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1963 and served in the Criminal Investigation Division, the military police and also was a bodyguard to Gen. William Westmoreland while in Vietnam in 1965-66. He was selected Solider of the Month for Vietnam while serving there. He attended the University of Oregon, Southern Oregon Univer ' sity and graduated from Portland State University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice and sociology. While at Southern Oregon, he met Fran Wynkoop, who became his wife in 1964. He joined the Oregon State Police in 1967 and served in Milwaukie, Medford and Salem. He was selected to attend polygraph school in 1974 and became head of that department in Salem in 1983. After 26 years with Oregon State Police, he retired and conducted gaming investigations for the Oregon Lottery for two years before going to work for Spirit Mountain Casino when it was still in the planning stages. He was manager of security at Spirit Mountain for 10 years. In 2001, he suffered four heart attacks (two total failuresXin 12 days and received the special heart of Carlos David Rodriquez in June of that year; a true gift of life. He retired from Spirit Mountain Casino in 2005, but continued to serve on the Board of Directors until his death. Many of his interests centered around his family and travel. He traveled to Canada, the East Coast and Mexico with his family, and he and Fran visited many countries in Western and Eastern Europe, Asia and Scandinavia, every U.S. state and all Canadian Provinces. They also enjoyed traveling the West in their recreational vehicle with friends and grandchildren. They enjoyed their "hobby" antique business, Good Old Goods, for 25 years. He also was an excellent musician, playing tuba in his early years and singing bass in the Portland Chorale during the 1970s and in the Rogue Valley Chorale in the late 1970s and early 1980s. At the time of his death, Mr. Lattin was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Salem, the Salem Elks Lodge No. 336, West Valley Hospital Foundation Board and the Board of Directors of Spirit Mountain Casino. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Fran; daughters, Catherine (Dan) Crocker, Suzanne (Russ) Isham and Danish exchange student Lisette Flyvholm; five grandchildren, Colman and Aubrey Crocker and Jessie, Caysie and Jake Isham; and siblings Paul, David, Grant and Shawn. He was loved by his family and many friends, who will miss his sense of humor and his amazing attitude toward life. He just "couldn't get any better!" Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at St. Paul's Epis copal Church, 1444 Liberty St. S.E., Salem, with burial occurring at City View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Donate Life Northwest, P.O. Box 532, Portland, OR 97207, or to St. Paul's Music Guild at the church, using the Liberty Street address. Arrangements were handled by City View Funeral Home in Salem. Gramxd Rorodo YirolbaD Board members wanted Board positions open to Tribal or nonTribal applicants The Grand Ronde Tribal Housing Authority Board has three Board of Commissioners seats expiring in March 201 1. The positions have terms expiring in March 2014. Interested persons should have a demonstrated interest in housing and experience in the housing field in some capacity, including: affordable housing development; property management; , residential building construction; housing finance; housing planning; other housing related areas. The Board oversees all housing development, housing manage ment, housing programs and housing operations for the Tribe, and is responsible for policy decisions. The board currently meets at 5 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Housing Authority office in Grand Ronde and holds work sessions as needed. Down Payment Assistance Program The Grand Ronde Tribal Housing Authority (GRTHA) has 2011 Down Payment Assistance available for applicants with moderate to low incomes. Although the budget for Tribally funded Down Payment Assistance has been committed for 201 1, HUD funds may be available for qualified Tribal applicants whose gross household income either meets, or is less than the guidelines below: Family size Gross income 1 $39,900 2 $45,600 3 $51,300 4 $56,950 5 $61,550 6 $66,100 7 . $70,650 8 $75,200 Please call Nancy Holmes, Homeownership Coordinator, at 503-879-2445, to pre-qualify for HUD funded assistance. The Grand Ronde Tribal Housing Authority is accepting applications for Rental Housing Units in Grand Ronde 1-5 bedroom sized units, many upgrades, parkingstorage close to Tribal services. The units include washerdryer, refrigerator, dishwasher, in-floor radiant heat, private patio and great views. If you work for the Tribe or casino, you pay no State Income Tax! The following screening criteria is required for the Market Rate Units: Credit history, landlord history, criminal history, income (at least 3 times monthly rent). One adult member of the household must be an enrolled CTGR Tribal member. HUD assisted rental applicants must meet low-income and other federal requirements.
