Tribe seeking 201 0-1 1 Hatfield Fellow applicants The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde is accepting applications for the Mark O. Hatfield Congressional Fellowship. Each year, a Hatfield Fellow serves as an intern for a member of Oregon's congressional delegation. The fellow is selected from adult Native American applicants who are enrolled members of a federally recognized Tribe in Oregon. If there are no qualified applicants from Oregon, enrolled members of federally recognized Tribes in Washington, Idaho and Montana will be considered. The selected candidate will intern in Washington, D.C., for nine months beginning in November and will receive a monthly stipend, relocation and travel expenses, and tuition for the American Political Science Association orientation. Again in 2010, applications will be accepted and submitted through an electronic Web-based process only at www.thecommunityfund. comthehatfieldfellowship. Videos providing an overview of the Hatfield Fellowship program and interviews with previous fellows can be viewed at Spirit Mountain Community Fund's Web site. Award recipients are nominated by Portland-area media outlets and Ferguson was nominated by the Portland Observer newspaper in connection with the philanthropic deeds of Spirit Mountain Casino and Spirit Mountain Community Fund. classes ffiirdl Parents with children between the ages of birth and 8 can participate in Make Parenting a Pleasure parenting classes co-sponsored by Healthy Start and the Grand Ronde Indian Child Welfare Program. The six consecutive classes started Monday, March 29, and will continue through May 3. Classes will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Adult Edu cation Building, and dinner and child care will be provided. Skills taught include strategies to deal with stress, tips for communicating with babies and young children, child development facts, discipline and ways to encourage positive behavior. Certificates will be awarded to those who complete all six classes. D Grand Ronde Tribal Housing Authority OPPORTUNITY FOR COMMENT ON GRTHA'S 2009 ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REPORT The Grand Ronde Tribal Housing Authority (GRTHA) receives grants under the Native American Housing Assistance and Self Determination Act of 1996, as amended. HUD provides these grants to Indian Tribes and Indian Housing Authorities for the development and operation of low-income housing in Indian areas. To be eligible for the grants, the Housing Authority must submit an annual Indian Housing Plan that meets the minimum requirements of the Act, and submit regular performance reports to HUD. Grand Ronde Tribal members are hereby notified that the Grand Ronde Tribal Housing Authority has prepared the Draft 2009 An nual Performance Report (APR), and public comments are encour aged. All comments will be incorporated into the final report. Copies of the 2009 APR are available by calling GRTHA at 503-879-2401, or 800-422-0232, ext. 2401. Copies are available by e-mail or pick one up at the GRTHA office. Comments must be submitted to GRTHA by 5 p.m. Mon day, April 26.
