General Council meeting Sunday, Feb. 7 10 a.m. Monarch Hotel Pacific Ballroom 12566 S.E. 93rd Ave. Clackamas, OR Dear Smoke Signals: The Bill Knight family is so thankful to have such wonderful family and friends who have been such a comfort in our time of grief. We lost a special man who now is in the arms of our Lord. Thank you everyone. "My loving Dad." Loretta Sisemore Chewelah, Wash. By Dean Rhodes Smoke Signals editor The Tribe started e-mailing a Tribal electronic newsletter on Friday, Jan. 15, to the more than 800 Tribal members who have signed up on the "members only" side of the Web site at www.grandronde.org. The brainchild of Tribal members Chris Mercier and Toby McClary, the electronic newsletter is designed to communicate important Tribal in formation to Tribal members in a less expensive, faster e-mail format. "At this point, we feel it in our best interest and those of the member ship to explore more ways to communicate with the general membership," Mercier wrote in the introductory Tribal Voices column. "A growing number of members are turning to our Tribal Web site on a daily basis, and an electronic newsletter provides advantages on a daily basis, and an electronic newsletter provides advantages that are consid erable, namely being cheap, timely and at little cost in staff time." The first electronic newsletter features a Tribal Voices column by Mercier, links to recent Smoke Signals stories, an overview of the Jan. 10 General Council meeting and a Q&A feature. "We anticipate that this newsletter will evolver over time," Mercier wrote. 'This online publication is extremely flexible and will continue to get better as we come to incorporate more multi-media features, such as videos, for example." Creation of a Tribal electronic newsletter does not mean the print edi tions of Smoke Signals or Tilixam Wawa will disappear. "Those publications will continue because most of our membership still prefer their news in newsprint," Mercier said. To receive the Tribe's electronic newsletter, Tribal members must be registered members of the Tribal Web site. See the ad on Page 7 in today's Smoke Signals for instructions on how to sign up for the Tribal Web site. The electronic newsletter is a cooperative effort of Tribal Council, the PublicationsPublic Affairs staff and the Tribe's Information Systems Department. D Tribal offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 18, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. 9 ii $5 II j Jjj, , ",".-l.nmi 0 S 503-879-5211 Ad created by George Valdez ScdxsCsq SBgMb PUBLICATIONS OFFICE 9615 Grand Ronde Road, Grand Ronde, OR 97347 1-800-422-0232, FAX: 503-879-2173 Web site: www.grandronde.orgnews E-mail: newsgrandronde.org SIOBHAN TAYLOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS DIRECTOR 503-879-1920 stobhan.cay(orgrandronde.org SCARLETT HOLTZ PUBLICATIONS SECRETARY 503-879-1453 K4ricn.hotogrwdrond.or( GEORGE VALDEZ GRAPHIC DESIGN SPECIALIST 503-879-1416 grorfe.vakleigrjndronde.org CARLA ROBERTS CENTRAL PHONES 503-879-1447 carla.robertsrandronde.orK KR1STEN RAVIA PUBLIC AFFAIRS SECRETARY 503-879-1418 krisuiMwbidgrKfcxnde.orf JUSTIN PHILLIPS PAGE DESIGNER 503-879-2190 unln.phllllps(rjndrond.or MICHELLE ALAIMO PHOTOJOURNALIST 503-879-1961 micheHc.jblmogrjndronde.Oft DEAN RHODES PUBLICATIONS COORDINATOR 503-879-1463 6jn.rtiodesgrartdronde.org RON KARTEN STAFF WRITER 503-879-4663 ron.lurtetigrandronde.orf SHELLY KENT CENTRAL PHONES 503-879-5211 iheify.kencgraiidrond.on DEADLINE PATE ISSUE DATE Tuesday, Jan. 20 FEB. 1 Friday, Feb. 5 FEB. 15 Friday, Feb. 1 9 Mar.
