Your family & friends. - Grannd Ronde Royalty Royalty participants and their parent or sponsor must attend all re quired events (powwows, parades, fundraisers, organizational meetings and others). Absences can be prearranged with the Royalty Coordinator. Three unexcused absences will result in disqualification from Royalty. Royalty participants are expected to stay for the duration of the events. This includes helping set up for events, such as meetings and parades, as well as dancing during Grand Entry, InterTribals and staying until the flags are retired unless pre-approved with the Royalty Coordinator. Par ticipants are expected to speak in front of large groups of people. Royalty participants must be willing and able to dance. Remember: You are all part of a team and are expected to treat yourselves, running mates and others with respect at all times. Participating in Royalty court is an excellent opportunity for Tribal girls and young women to learn our traditions and powwow protocol. Participants represent the Tribe by attending powwows and various community events. We encourage all young woman ages 5-18 to join. Participants must pro vide their regalia. Serving on Royalty Court requires a considerable commitment from the participant and her sponsor; travel, fundraisers, classes, and meetings are required for all competing participants. Harrison, former Tribal chairwoman and a Tribal Elder, gave the invocation at the event. The 1859-themed party also coincided with the Oregon National Guard's Senior Leader's Conference and annual Military Ball, which was attended by many Oregon Air and Oregon Army National Guard members and their spouses, including Lane. , Culture Committee sets celebration The Tribe's Culture Committee will hold a Native foods celebration from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 9, in the Tribal Community Center. The committee invites everyone to join in the celebration of Native foods, including meats, berries, seafood and roots. Food will start being served at noon by Royalty representatives. B VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THE HEALTH CARE TASK FORCE The Health Care Task Force (HCTF) is scheduled to have its first meet ing of 2009 on May 11, from 10 a.m. to noon. The HCTF is made up of nine members and is currently looking for two Grand Ronde members who live outside of the Tribe's six-county service area to participate on the task force. The HCTFs mission and goals are: To review the Skookum Tribal Member Health Plan services and benefits and make recommendations to the Tribal Council that increase the plan's financial efficiency and promotes long-term sustainability. Goals 1) Create recommendations for financial efficiency and plan sustain ability based on changes that affect benefits to members the least. 2) Develop creative opportunities that focus on prevention and wellness, thereby reducing long-term plan costs and increasing the overall health and wellness of the Tribal membership. This mission and goals are incredibly important to the Tribe's long-term self-sufficiency as the Skookum plan is supported solely with Tribal funds. The plan costs the Tribe, each of you, more than $20 million annually. The HCTF will be meeting twice monthly through September.
