Smoke Signals 11 JUNE 1,2008 QolftwiraD education slates June cDasses The Grand Ronde Cultural Education Department is holding the fol lowing classes in June: In Grand Ronde: Maple Bark Skirts, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 14, in Education Building Room 126 with a limit of 15 students; and Parfieche Bags, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 17 and 24, in Education Building Room 207 with a limit of 10 students. In Portland: Beading, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays, June 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 with no attendance limit; carving and Chinuk Wawa classes, 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, June 4, 11, 18 and 25; and Cedar Plated Hats, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 7, with a limit of 10 attendees. In Eugene: Cattail Bags and Cordage, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 14, with no attendance limit; and Chinuk Wawa language classes all day on Thursdays, June 5, 12, 19 and 26. The ball was a fundraiser for the Kids on the Block after school enrichment program and the Tribe and Spirit Mountain Casino were Cornerstone Partners of the annual event. The next Mayor's Charity Ball is scheduled for Feb. 7, 2009. BM eatroDS dlegcree iiin) mmDiroaD joastik I Tribal member Deneise Bill graduated in mid-May from California State University, Chico, will a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. She plans a career in probation and parole. "I feel there is a great need in Tehama County for these services," Bill, 46, told the Red Bluff Daily News. "And I want to be a part of it." Bill, nee Rife, is the mother of three children: Tribal members Ashley, 18, and twins, Jozie and Brodie, 14. Her parents are Tribal member Robert and his wife, Amy, of Culver, Ore., and La Wanda Bowen and her husband, Coy, of Fruitland, Idaho. She is the wife of Joe Bill of Red Bluff and received her degree after a 25 year span from leaving high school. Bill earned an associate of arts degree in university studies at Shasta College, graduating with high honors. She was Phi Beta Kappa and in the National Honor Society. Bill's graduation was celebrated May 16 at North Valley Baptist Church in Red Bluff. "I want to thank the Tribe for its support in getting me through college," Bill said.
