Apply by Sept. 1, 2008 The purpose of this program is to assist high school-aged students (16 years and older) who are members of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and choose to take college credit courses while still enrolled in high school. Home-schooled students also may participate in this program. Students may take college courses toward high school graduation and college degree completion. Qualified applicants are eligible for a funding amount not to exceed $500 per termquarter. Students on a semester system are eligible for funding not to exceed $1,000 per semestersix months. The level of funding for this program is subject to availability of Tribal resources and budget approval. There are a limited number of spots available for this program for 2008. Workshop classes in Grand Ronde June 10 Introducation to Microsoft Word July 8 Intermediate Word Aug. 12 Introduction to Powerpoint Sept. 9 Introduction to Microsoft Excel Oct. 14 Intermediate Excel Nov. 18 Advanced Excel Dec. 9 Intermediate Microsoft Outlook (must be a Tribal employee with access to Outlook) The workshops will be taught by Northwest Computer Learning Center and will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the computer lab in the Adult Educa tion Building. Cost for a workshop is $150 and eligible Tribal members can apply to the Noncredit Program (formally Short Term Training) for assistance with registration costs. Space is limited to the first 15 who register. The Tribal Library will sponsor theme-related ac tivity sessions for age groups as follows: Tuesdays: June 17 & 24 and July 1 , 8, 15, 22 & 29 2 3 p.m.: Kindergarten - 3rd grade 4 5 p.m.: 4th & 5th grade Youth sessions will include reading a story and doing a story related activity. Some topics we have planned include ants, butterflies and bees plus other creepy crawlies! Thursdays: June 19 & 26 and July 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31 3-4 p.m.: 6th - 8th grade 5-6 p.m.: 9th - 12th grade Young adult sessions will include a topic discussion with a related activity. These session themes will be about " metamorphosis" and transformations young adults make in everyday life such as appear ance the way we look on the outside. Some topics planned will include creepy and crawly stuff, too. ; Summer Reading Incentive Program: For ages 4-17 years old. Registration is required for the Reading Incentive Program. Participants can earn prizes for time spent reading and can enter drawings for each book rend. Participants will receive certificates at the end of the program. The Reading Incentive Program will begin June 16 and end July 31. Registration pnekcts will be available at the library on Juno 1. Registration period is June 1-13. Grand Ronde HeadStartPreschool applications now being accepted Grand Ronde HeadStartPreschool applications for the 2008-09 school year are now being accepted. Selection will take place Friday, Aug. 1. CaaDtiaair Camp Kindergarten through fifth-grade Culture Camp (grade that youth was in for the 2007-08 school year). June 9-11 and June 30-July 2. Classes ongoing in Portland Chinuk Wawa and Carving classes are ongoing Wednesday nights at the Tribe's Portland office at 3312 S.W.
