Smoke Signals 9 MAY 1,2008 Vendors sought for Spirit Mountain Rodeo The Spirit Mountain Rodeo Special Events Board is seeking vendors for this year's event, set for June 21-22 at the Tribal Rodeo Grounds. Native vendors are free and nonNative vendors pay $50 for the two-day event. The Rodeo Grounds receive 24-hour surveillance during the Rodeo, so vendors do not have to worry about leaving their wares overnight. Those interested in being vendors should contact Harold Lyon at 503-237-5775. Vendors are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Lyon said the Rodeo usually attracts about 500 to 600 participants an nually. B Boards seek voDunteers The Rodeo Board and Tribal Fish & Wildlife Committee are seeking volunteers to apply to serve on them. The Rodeo Board has three openings. It meets monthly on the first Thursday of the month and supervises putting on the Tribe's annual June rodeo. The Fish & Wildlife Committee has one opening. It meets monthly on the second Tuesday and supervises the salmon distribution, Tribal hunting tags and metes out punishment to people who violate Tribal game laws. To apply for either board, pick up a Special Events Board form from Tribal Council Relations Coordinator Dakota Whitecloud. B Durumn cDasses sDafted Tribal Adult Education Coordinator Joanne Carr will be teaching three drum classes in May. The free classes will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at the Eu gene satellite office, 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at the Portland sat ellite office and from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 29, in Grand Ronde. Grand Ronde Royalty Royalty participants and their parent or sponsor must attend all re quired events (powwows, parades, fundraisers, organizational meetings and others). Absences can be prearranged with the Royalty Coordinator. Three unexcused absences will result in disqualification from Royalty. Royalty participants are expected to stay for the duration of the events. This includes helping set up for events, such as meetings and parades, as well as dancing during Grand Entry, InterTribals and staying until the flags are retired unless pre-approved with the Royalty Coordinator. Par ticipants are expected to speak in front of large groups of people. Royalty participants must be willing and able to dance. Remember: You are all part of a team and are expected to treat yourselves, running mates and others with respect at all times. Notice: Age requirement change All interested girls and boys must be able to meet the following guidelines in order to be eligible for the Veterans' Royalty Court: All must be enrolled members of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde. Participants should have never been married and have no children. All must be enrolled in and currently attending a public or private school. All must be drug and alcohol free. Must have one year of powwow experience. Must have their own regalia, or be able to make their own regalia before the application deadline. Participants must be willing and able to attend all Veterans' events and be prepared to represent the Veterans and the Tribe. Must have a parent or sponsor willing to participate and attend activities with the girls and boys and provide transportation. As of July 9, 2008, you must be 9 to 13 years of dge for Junior Veterans' Royalty Queen Junior Veterans' Young Warriors; and 14 to 18 years of age for Senior Veterans' Royalty QueenSenior Veterans' Young Warriors.
