Smoke Signals 1 1 JANUARY 1,2008 Do you need funding assistance with graduation costs or admissiontesting fee Graduation Sponsorship Program is available to Grand Ronde Tribal members who are graduating from a high school, collegeuniversity or tradeapprenticeship program. The program will pay up to $100 towards graduation expenses (cap, gown andor announcements). Admission and Testing Fee Assistance Program is available to Grand Ronde Tribal members who are applying for admission to colleges and universities or are in need of testing fee assistance for college-level testing (SAT, ACT, GRE, etc.). The program will pay up to $200 towards admission and testing fees per academic year. Student leadership conference, networking and Hawaiian foods dinner We are inviting Native American and other college students and advisers from around the state to join us for a free student leadership conference, networking and a Hawaiian foods dinner. The evening events will be hosted by United Indian Students of Higher Education of Portland State University on Friday, Jan. 25. The conference will be from 1 1 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Smith Memorial Student Union, 1825 S.W. Broadway, Portland. Dinner will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Native American Student and Community Center, 710 S.W. Jackson St. Please join us for the conference and dinner. We encourage all Native students to participate. It will be a nice lead into the new year and we hope to see you there. Cost for a workshop is $150 and eligible Tribal members can ap ply to the Noncredit Program (formally Short Term Training) for assistance with registration costs. Eula Petite for education majors; 5. Ray McKnight for natural resource majors. Deadline for all categories is April 30. You must be an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde to apply. Gates Millennium Scholarships are open to all high school seniors, as well as high school and GED graduates who will begin classes in Fall 2008. You must be Native American, African-American, Asian-American or Latino to apply. This scholarship pays for 100 percent of unmet need for college for up to nine years. Oregon Student Assistance Commission Scholarships Applications are now available for the 2008 OSAC Scholarships. Each year OSAC administers more than 300 scholarships though its application. Application deadline is March 1, or by Feb. 15 to enter for an Early Bird Scholarship. Out-of-state students who are members of Oregon Tribes and attending Oregon schools are also able to apply.
