I would also like to thank Tribal Council members Reyn Leno, June Sell-Sherer and Steve Robb for taking time to attend his funeral. A special thanks to Donna Morris for doing the flowers. Thank you to all for all the hugs, kisses and cards. Thanks a bunch, Dan, Les, and Tom Jeffers Dear Editor: It is Monday, Oct. 22. I am sitting in my pajamas, trying to decide how to thank all the people who worked so tirelessly for the last month to make the Elder's Yard Sale so successful. The list goes on and on, but I will attempt to say thank you anyway. When we asked for donations, a lot of you decided it was time to clean out and get rid of all those things we all collect and then don't know what to do with. We would go to the clubhouse to work and the porch would be full of the most wonderful things: leather couches, decorative items too numerous to mention, clothes to tempt anyone of any size or gender, shoes went like hotcakes, skis, golf clubs, a small blow-up boat (hated to see it go; thought we may need it), and the list goes on and on. The weather was wild to say the least, but people came anyway. It was a very social event with music and entertainment. If you missed the demonstration on how to use the big exercise ball, there are some pictures floating around. Gladdy May will destroy them if she gets to them first. I will let your imagination figure that one out! The sale was to be over at 4 p.m. Saturday. At 4 p.m., the music was winding up and people started shopping in earnest. Bargains were to be had. Finally, by 5:15 p.m., we were all boxed up. After I checked to see that we were done, I turned around to see who was still there. There they were! There were roughly 12 people still there, laid back, comfortable and not through being social. When I asked if anyone was going home, they just smiled. So I sat on the floor and joined in. We finally called it a day about 6:30 p.m. and headed out. Thank you to Vern Kennedy and all the musicians; the Provost family who brought their Indian taco stand and set up in the wind and rain; the crew from the gym who saw everything was there we needed and took very good care of us; Larry Leith and his crew who hauled so much over for us; the pickups that showed up at the craft house to haul; and the cars. Everyone worked tirelessly to make this the social event of the fall. They (Elders) made the remark if this was successful, they may want to do it again in the spring. Think I will go to Hawaii. The purpose of the event at Champoeg State Park was to recon nect the Grand Ronde people, particularly the Kalapuyan, with Champoeg.
