Bobb Sr. Willamina Dear Smoke Signals: Thank you for the article regarding the Keizer Tribal property. That information and map bring back memories of my sixth-grade student days at Chemawa Indian School. I was 12 years old in 1946 and my sister, Sharon, was 11 and in fifth grade. The fall school days at Chemawa meant the students went to the fields and orchards west of the school facility and gathered field tomatoes and fruit from the apple, pear and plum trees. We went to school in the morning and gathered produce after lunch. The fields and orchards were where the present-day Interstate 5 passes by the new Chemawa Indian School campus. In the "old days," Chemawa was a grade school and a high school. The young girls stayed in McBride Hall, which was very near the railroad tracks. I recall the old steam engines blowing their whistles as they rushed by the school. That always made me homesick. Thank you for bringing back these memories of my Chemawa school days. Claudette Parazoo Tillicum2923 Tulalip.Wash. Dear Smoke Signals: Courtney Galligher would like to thank everyone who supported the Fry Bread Fundraiser for her. A big thank you to Violet Zimbrick for organiz ing the event, Claudia Leno, Kristy DeLoe, Connie Graves for deliveries, the Community Center crew and all friends who provided supplies, cooked and served at the event. Thank you to St. Michael's Altar Society and Spirit Mountain Casino for the bake sale. I appreciate all the flowers, cards, gifts, thoughts and prayers I have received since my accident. I am improving every day and plan to spend the upcoming holidays at my parent's home in Grand Ronde. I will be traveling to Portland to continue my physical therapy and rehabilitation in my road to recovery. Thank you again to all, Courtney and family A 1 v ?
