M. v., c Tribal member and Public Affairs Mentee Angela Sears released her inner turkey hang out for this year's Tribal turkey bowl. While her form was more than perfect, her luck only got her as far as a consolation prize. She swore she'd be practicing during the off season this year. By Ron Karten ... . i . . . : When Tribal member and Education Specialist Bryan Langley rolled the rock hard frozen turkey down the plastic garbage bag bowling lane, he moved a large number of water-filled milk jugs set up like bowling pins should be set up. "Five," called out Human Resources Benefits Specialist Sheila McDonald with umpire-like certainty. "Ooooo," said the crowd, because at that point in the competition, Tribal Education Administrative Assistant Debbie Bachman had the lead with six. "You can appeal that ruling to the National Frozen Turkey Bowling Association," said Spirit Mountain Community Fund Director Shelley Hanson. A lot of folks would be giving that option some consideration before the last turkey was rolled at the noontime event out in front of the Tribal Governance Center on November 16. When Tribal Medical Transcriptionist Linda Henry rolled out the turkey, it went right down the middle, possibly the only perfect strike turkey all that noon, but it stopped before reaching the pins, er, milk jugs. When she groaned, Human Resources Manager Steve O'Hara, who started the event and presided over this third annual roll-off, told Henry not to worry, that she was "still in the running for some fabulous prizes." In the end, she took home the turkey baster. Three consolation prizes Santa Claus door hangers found new homes, and the day's winners, Housekeeping Supervisor Curtis Rentsch and Education Manager April Campbell, each won a $25 gift certificate to Safeway. Or, as Housing Authority Assistant Executive Director Greg Martin said at one point in the proceedings: "Paydirt!" Tribal ID Machine Out Of Service The Tribe sent out the Tribal ID machine to Texas for repair. It will be gone for about 6 weeks. The Enrollement Office will be able to take your picture, but you will have to wait until the machine gets back to print your Tribal ID card. We will then mail them to members.
