Bid opening for the Solo Logging Unit will take place at the Grand Ronde Tribes Natural Resources Office located at 47010 SW Hebo Road, Grand Ronde, Oregon, at 2 p.m. on October 17, 2006. The Solo Logging Unit contains approximately 12.95 acres of Douglas-fir timber to be cut. The timber sale consists of an estimated volume of 610 MBF of Douglas-fir and Other Conifers - Peeler and Sawmill Grade Logs at a minimum bid rate of $489.47 per thousand board feet net scale, an undetermined volume of Red Alder and Other Hardwoods - Peeler and Sawmill Grade Logs at a predetermined rate of $479.02 per thousand board feet net scale, and All Species - Wood Logs and Other Wood Products logs at the predetermined rate of $60.70 per thousand board feet gross scale or $9.34 per ton. The above stated volumes are estimates and are not guaranteed. "Mike" Peters March 8, 1920 September 11, 2006 Tribal Elder Albert "Mike" Peters of Albany and formerly of Dallas, passed away on September 11. He was 86. Albert was born in Willamina and graduated from Dallas High School, where he excelled at basketball and baseball. He was drafted into the army in April of 1942 and was an aviator in the Pacific campaign, fighting in the Marina Islands. He was shot down or had mechanical problems and ended up in the water 10 times. Following his discharge in 1946, he worked for Star Transfer until he retired and he worked for K-Mart and the Albany Democrat Herald. Survivors include his wife, Harriet Peters; son, Wayne Peters of Salem; daughters, Audrey Scott of Tualatin, Leona Price of Albany, Leta Trask of Springfield, Donna Smith Lee of Hermiston and Delores Bennett of Bremerton, Washington; brother, Hank Peters of Lebanon; sister, Ethel Hughes of Dallas; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Services were held Friday, September 15 at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
