News NEW LIBRARY HOURS: Monday - Friday: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. (closed Monday - Friday Noon - 1 p.m.) Saturday: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. My name is Spencer Olson and this year I worked in the Tribal Library. Throughout the program I had a total of four goals. My first goal was ongoing, and consisted of learning library operation, keeping the book shelves in order, checking in and checking out books, cataloguing new items, and to reshelf books and movies as needed. Another goal was to increase awareness of the library among youth. One way was by holding a movie day in the Youth Ed Building. The movie day was held for the last four weeks of the program and all movies were animal related. My third goal was to develop, distribute and compile the results of a survey to see what the Tribal Library could to improve services to teens. My final goal was to create a book of the week review that would show anyone who visited the library what that week's recommended book was. Each week the book pertained to a different age group ranging from pre-k to adult. The books included "Holes," "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," "Moby Dick," "The Unauthorized Autobiography" and "B is for Beaver." Incorporated into the goals was to track each of each goal and have a timeline of when they were finished. I kept track of them by keeping an electronic list on the computer and highlighting events depending on whether they were complete, in progress, ongoing, or not yet started. The entire page was highlighted as complete by the final day of work. My experience in the library was a good one. I learned how to input information into a database, I learned valuable organiza tional and editing skills, and I learned how to check catalogue files for errors. This position is challenging and keeps you oc cupied right up to the last day. I personally would recommend the library position to any future SYE Program youth. fit To Host Open House The Education Division is holding an Open House on Wednesday, October 11 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. We are having a Chicken BBQ at the Youth Education covered area starting at 5:30 p.m. This is a showcase for all of our programs: HeadStartPreschool K-5 Program Youth Education Recreation Programs Tribal Library GED Program Continuing & Distance Education Scholarship Program Adult VocationalShort Term Training College & Career Counseling Higher Education All are welcome.
