J ' October 2006: Joann Mercier "I have worked at SMGI for over ten years now. Most recently I went through an inter view for Security Manager, and was honored to be se lected. It's interesting to watch the eagle push their young out of the nest, knowing they will fly. Yet the fear and uncertainty keeps them from going freely. It was fear, and uncertainty that kept me from ever applying for a manager position. Had it not been for Randy Dugger pushing me out of the nest, and believing in me, I suppose I would have always wondered if maybe I should have at least tried. It was such a personal revelation and accomplishment to know without a doubt in my mind hey! I can do this, I can fly!! Working at Spirit Mountain has been a wonderful experience in my working career. There is opportunity for growth, education, training, and really... the sky's the limit if you put your mind to it! I myself started here at the bottom level as a Security Officer, up to Lead, Supervisor and now Manager... who'd of thought? Certainly not me! It is because of the things mentioned above along with great support and encouragement from others. It's because of great team work, and the people I've worked with throughout the years. They are the ones that deserve the spotlight, because it's been because of them that has brought me to where I am today. I am proud to be an employee here. My positions have been chal lenging and often times stressful, but not to stressful to have a good laugh with a co worker at the end of the day. While working in Human Resources prior to my return to Security, I wrote a poem that tells of my journeys through my experiences, jobs and education." am Joann Mercier I am a strong Indian (woman) warrior I ride in the battle fields each day Feeling triumphant in my victories But more knowledgeable in my defeats The books have taught me much But the people, and experiences have taught me more When I enter my tipi at night I tend to my wounds And when the moon disappears, and the sun rises high I pray to my God 'Give me a gentle spirit and a forgiving heart And bring peace to all my people, all people everywhere'. I will carry my feathers into the battlefields I will wear my beads, and show pride in who I am I will carry my books to the circle And together we will learn Together we will become one.
