Fair July 29
The Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA Family
Center) announces Portland's first Native American Housing-to-Hom-eownership
Fair. The event will be held on Saturday, July 29, from 10
a.m. -3 p.m. in the Mount Tabor Hall at Portland Community College
S.K. Center, 2305 S.E. 82nd Ave and Division, Portland OR 97216.
The Native American Housing-to-Homeownership Fair is free and
open to everyone. Participants will meet housing resource professionals,
lenders and may be eligible to enter to win $1,500 in down payment
assistance. Classes, homebuyer assistance information and housing
resources for renters with home ownership goals will be offered. Fea
tures include Native American dance performances, a guest drum, food,
Kids' Corner and raffle prizes.
The fair is offered in response to community need and as part of NAYA
Family Center's goal of increasing economic and housing stability in
the American IndianAlaska Native Community. The fair will provide
a wide range of resources for the whole community: from renters to
potential home owners. In comparison to populations of similar size,
only 17 percent of Portland's 38,000 American Indians and Alaska
Natives own their home (Northwest Area Foundation).
This event is coordinated by the NAYA Family Center in collabo
ration with the Bureau of Housing and Community Development,
Portland Development Commission, The Confederated Tribes of the
Grand Ronde, US Bank, Albina Community Bank, The State of Or
egon, The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, Portland Community
Land Trust, Housing Connections & 211 Info, HOST Development
Inc., The Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw
Indians, The Coquille Indian Tribe, Home 123, Portland Habitat for
Humanity, Portland Housing Center, Key Bank, Northwest Housing
Alternatives, Columbian Non-profit Housing, Cascade Residential
Mortgage and other partners.

New rentals available for families, without income limits.
Be the first to live in these beautiful homes that offer from 1 to 5
bedrooms. The larger units boast two full bathrooms and a walk in
closet. Eighteen of the homes are equipped with free-standing gas
stoves, air conditioning, granite counter tops, hardwood cabinets,
energy efficient appliances, high quality carpeting, washers & dry
ers, individual garages, private patios and an expansive green space
complete with water features for the kids! An additional eighteen
rentals will offer fewer amenities, but with somewhat lower rents.
The GRTHA team has worked diligently to provide high quality
homes that are family friendly, functional and cozy. Inspiring views
of Spirit Mountain, panoramic sunrises and sunsets, and the coastal
range changing with the seasons offers a return to a homeland
within an unparalleled natural setting.
Rents include landscaping and common area maintenance. Eli
gible CTGR Tribal members who work for the Tribe and live in this
project are exempt from Oregon State Income Taxes! The first of
these rentals will be available in the late summer 2006.
Applications will be available as units are completed. Inter
est lists for the open market rental units are presently limited to
enrolled members of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde
Community of Oregon.

Two and Three Bedroom units will be available in late summer
2006, other sized units by the fall of 2006. The five-bedroom unit,
and additional lower rent units with fewer amenities will have rents
published next month.
NEW Chxi Musam Illihi Low-Income Rentals
Low-income families will also have 36 more rental units available
from 1 to 5 bedroom size, upon the completion of this new phase of
family housing development in late 2006. Rents for these units will
be 30 of adjusted household income, and income limits apply.

The canoe journeys are all about teaching our kids about
living a cultural and positive lifestyle along with being drug
and alcohol free. With our kids being around all this positive
influence and seeing how other kids are participating in these
events, they learn more about themselves and how they can
live a good and clean lifestyle. Come and join us. For more

Tribal Housing Offers Trainings
& Financial Skills
Grand Ronde Tribal Housing Authority is pleased to be able to offer
Homebuyer Trainings and Financial Skills classes to Tribal members.
Financial Skills Trainings consist of four 2-hour class sessions
and will be held on the following schedule:
Fridays: July 7, 14, 21, 28 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Tuesdays: September 12, 19, 26, Oct. 3 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Tuesdays: October 31, Nov. 7, 14, 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. .
The above classes will be held at the Housing Authority.
Homebuyer Training consists of three 3-hour class sessions and
will be held on the following schedule:
Tuesdays: July 11, 18, 25, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Tuesdays: September 12, 19, 26, from 9 a.m. to noon.
These classes will be held at the Housing Authority.
