Please contact 503-879-2275 for more information. fit 2005-2006 Scholarship Season Approaching Are you planning on attending a college or university Fall 2005? If so, check with the college or university for their scholarship deadlines. Many schools have deadlines in January & February. Regardless of where you will be attending, start preparing now. Most scholarships require personal statements, letters of recommendations and transcripts. Attention All Higher Education & Adult Vocational Training Students: If you will be a new or returning student Fall 2005, don't forget to apply for the 2005-2006 Free Application For Student Aid (FAFSA). Applica tions will be available in December online at www.fafsa.ed.gov and at any college, university or library. It is a requirement for all Higher Edu cation and Adult Vocational Training Program students to apply for the FAFSA. Remember, never pay to have a FAFSA completed or submitted. It is free. If you need help filling out your FAFSA, please contact your finan cial aid office, high school counselor or the Tribe's Education Department at 1-800-422-0232 ext. 2275 or 503-879-2275. Your Education Checklist: JANUARY 1 30: Make copies of your completed Federal Financial Aid application. Mail original in the envelope provided; send copy to the Tribal Education division; and keep copy for yourself. JANUARY 1 APRIL 30: Request and complete the Tribal Education Trust Fund Scholar ship program application. Mail to the Tribal Education Division. BEGINNING OF EACH TERMSEMESTER: Mail new class schedules to the Tribal Education Division. END OF EACH TERMSEMESTER: Mail grade reports to the Tribal Education Division. MONTHLY: For students attending a proprietary school, you need to send a grade report, progress report and attendance record every month to the Tribal Education Division. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR: Maintain contact with the Tribal Education Specialist. HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS There are many opportunities to start preparing for college now! By providing us your contact information we can keep you updated on local and out of state opportunities and remind you of upcoming deadlines for education and scholarship funding. Save your receipt and the Education Division can reimburse you the cost for this test. To sign up go to this website www.collegeboard.com. I also have practice tests available for your use to help prepare you for the SATs. Last testing date before it changes with an added writing section is Janu ary 22. THE LIBRARY CORNER The holiday season is upon us and this is a very busy time for all. The holi days will be easier on everyone if they take a few minutes for themselves to relax; sit back and read a good book or watch some videos. At your library we have just those things to help make your life a little less rushed over the holi days. We have some great Christmas books that should do the trick. We have a selection of Children Christmas Stories, Adult Christmas fiction, Christmas cooking books (even diabetic candy & dessert), a Christmas sewing book and also some Christmas videos to relax with. This last month we have had some generous donations which include Sin Killer, The Wandering Hill & By Sorrow's River by Larry McMurtry (author of Lonesome Dove); The Search For Joyful by Benedict Freedman (Native American Fiction); Volume one and two of Thunder Over The Ochoco by Gale Ontko (Native American Non-Fiction); The Perfect Summer by Luanne Rice and finally J.A. Jance's Birds of Prey (Mystery). As our collection has grown to over 2650 items we are sure that you will be able to find something to make your Holidays a fun time. Due to the holidays there will not be a Mystery Book Club on December 27 or a Children's Fun Day on Decem ber 25. Our hours are 8-8:30 Monday-Wednesday; 8-5 Thursday-Friday; and Saturday from 10-2. This scholarship is open to anyone who has not yet attended college after high school or GED completion, is Pell Grant eligible and demonstrates leadership abilities.
