A reminder that the fall quarter Chinuk Wawa class started September 27, 2004. It will be conducted by the Tribe's Cultural Education program. The ten-week course began September 27 and ends December 6. It will be held Monday nights from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in Room 126a in the Tribe's Adult Education build ing. American Indian College Night You are invited to meet with American Indian representatives from sev eral universities and colleges in Oregon to learn more about opportunities available to you. Bring your parents. American Indian College Night will be held Tuesday, October 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cow Creek Tribal Office at 2371 N.E. Stephens (next to Good will) in Roseburg. There is no cost to you. Meet university staff, find out more about scholarships, financial aide, Tribal scholarships, the Educational Opportunity centers, job opportuni ties and class offerings. This is an excellent opportunity for you and your parents to start deciding which college is right for you, how you are going to pay for college and what the cultural opportunities are. B Association on American Indian Affairs Emergency Aid The Association on American Indian Affairs offers Emergency Aid Scholarships to full time American Indian and Alaskan Native stu dents in amounts ranging from $100-$400. Students may receive one scholarship per academic year. There is no deadline for aDDlica- - 1 A tion. Must be enrolled at least 14 with a federally-recognized Tribe. Please visit website for additional requirements and aDDlication. www.indian-affairs.org. Your Education Checklist: JANUARY 1 30: Make copies of your completed Federal Financial Aid application. Mail original in the envelope provided; send copy to the Tribal Educa tion division; and keep copy for yourself. JANUARY 1 APRIL 30: Request and complete the Tribal Education Trust Fund Scholarship program application. Mail to the Tribal Education Division. BEGINNING OF EACH TERMSEMESTER: Mail new class schedules to the Tribal Education Division. END OF EACH TERMSEMESTER: Mail grade reports to the Tribal Education Division. MONTHLY: For students attending a proprietary school, you need to send a grade report, progress report and attendance record every month to the Tribal Education Division. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR: Maintain contact with the Tribal Education Specialist. HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS There are many opportunities to start preparing for college now! Please call the Education Department to let us help you on your journey. By providing us your contact information we can keep you updated on local and out of state opportunities, and remind you of upcoming deadlines for education and scholar ship funding. Save your receipt and the Education Division can reimburse you the cost for this test. The SATs are adding a new writing portion to the test in March 2005, so plan on taking it in the fall if you want to avoid an extra section. To sign up go to this website: www.collegeboard.com. If you don't have com puter access, please come to the Education Building and use one of our comput ers. You will need credit card information to sign up online. I also have practice tests available for your use to help prepare you for the SATs. Fall testing dates are November 6th and December 4th. CHEMEKETA PLACEMENT TEST If you are a new student pursuing a degree or certificate, you will be asked to take a free placement test (ASSET) in order to be accepted for admission. Test results more than five years old are not valid. The purpose of the test is to determine your skill levels in reading, writing and mathematics so you can select the entry-level classes that are right for you. ASSET testing is offered the second Tuesday of every month at 9 a.m. Next testing date is October 12 at 9 a.m.-ll a.m. in the Adult Education Building.
