Dear Tribal members, I would like to take the time to thank those who have supported me while pursuing a very dear and personal goal. About 8 years ago I chose to return to school and become an Occupational Therapist. This goal was met with many raised eyebrows and looks of wonder. Pursuing an educa tional goal that requires dedication and continued hard work for 8 years is not a small feat for anyone, let alone for a mother of three who has been out of school for more then 10 years. Despite this, I chose to follow my heart. I believe it was after successfully finishing my first year that those around me started to take me serious. It was at this time my mother told me about the education department at the Tribe. Soon I was in contact with April Campbell who set me up with the appropriate paperwork needed to apply for a scholarship. April was so kind, understanding and genu inely interested in my goals it made the process seem effortless. I received a full scholarship for the remainder of my undergraduate career. I was also fortunate enough to receive a Tribal scholarship for graduate school as well. This spring I finally received my degree in Occupational Therapy. However, my blessings do not stop there. Before I could practice as an O.T. I needed to pass my National Boards. Again, the Tribe was there for me and providing the necessary funding and support needed to register for the exam. As of August 16, 1 can gratefully state I have completed my goal and am now an official Registered Occupational Therapist. Becoming an R.O.T. has not been an easy task, however with the sup port of my loving and understanding husband, my forever-patient chil dren and respectful Tribe my goal has been achieved. In closing, I must not forget to thank my parents who provided me with the morals and values needed to pursue this goal. Together they taught me courage, perseverance and compassion for all. Thank-you all for helping me learn how to paddle my own canoe. Jodie McCue Roll 4152 Dear family and friends, We would like to thank all of you for the flowers, cards and comfort you gave to us during the passing of our mother, Etta Hansen. We would also like to thank the Tribal Council (past and present) for the Burial Fund Ordinance. It was greatly appreciated not to have to think about finances when we just lost our loved one. Again thank you all so much, The Children of Etta Hansen mm PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE 9615 Grand Ronde Road, Grand Ronde, OR 97347 1-800-422-0232 FAX: 503-879-2173 www.grandronde.org BRENT MERRILL PUBLIC INFORMATION MANAGEREDITOR 503-879-2321 brent.mCTTllK3igrandronde.org . fffll JUSTIN PHILLIPS GRAPHIC DESIGNER 503-879-2190 KBrJn.phllllpsgrandronde.org a RON KARTEN STAFF WRITER 503-879-4663 ron.kartengrandronde.org DEADLINE DATE ISSUE PATE Fri.,Sep. 17 OCT.l Tues.,Oct.S OCT. 15 Wed., Oct. 20 NOV. 1 Fri.,Nov.5 NOV. 15 Wed., Nov. 17 DEC. 1 Fri.,Dec. 3 DEC. 15 Thurs., Dec. 16 JAN. 1, 2005 i j 1 "i TOBYMCCLARY PRODUCTION ASSISTANT I 503-879-1358 toby.rncclarygrandronde.org PETATINDA PHOTOJOURNALIST 503-879-1463 peta.dndagrandronde.org r t ----I SHELLY KENT CENTRAL PHONES 503-879-521 1 shelly.kentgrandronde.org MARTY GEORGE PRODUCTION ASSISTANT II 503-879-1453 marty.georgegrandronde.org SMOKE SIGNALS, a publication of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Commu nity of Oregon, Is published twice a month.
