JULY 15, 2004 Smoke Signals 11 Washington Mutual $500 Scholarship For Non-Traditional Students Open to all Undergraduate Grand Ronde Tribal members who will be attending an accredited higher education institute full-time in Fall 2004, and meet the criteria of a non-traditional student. Non-Traditional Student: Described by one or more of the following categories: Adults 24 years of age or older, Veterans of the armed forces of the United States, married students and students who have legal de pendents. Please call the Education Division at 503-879-2275 for an application. DEADLINE: Postmarked by July 31, 2004. Available in the Education building, GED Classes & Food Handlers' Certificates Mondays and Wednesdays 1:30-4 p.m. Call Joanne Carr at 503-879-2282. American Indian Services Scholarship Full-Time or part-time undergraduate students enrolled in a college, university, junior college or technical school can apply to the American Indian Services Scholarship. Must be enrolled at least 14 Native Ameri can blood. Applicant must have no more than 150 semester credits, or 210 quarter credits and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.25. Deadline: August 15, 2004 for AugustSeptember classes. Grand Ronde Library The Grand Ronde Tribal Library is located in the Education Building. Library hours are as follows: Monday Wednesday 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday & Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The library collection contains over 1,500 items. We have fic tion non fiction for youth and adult, a significant Native Ameri can collection, books on tape and a limited children's collection. The library has two computers available for use that has internet access. We have an impressive reference section of most all new materials. We are in an assessment process to determine the needs of our library patrons. Please share your comments about what you think we need to have available to better serve the local commu nity library needs. We hope to have you visit the library soon! HeadStart Recruitment Runs Until July 30 This announcement is for children who are three years old by Sep tember 1, 2004 to children who are five years old (pre-kindergarten) and that are income eligible. Our first day of school is September 7, 2004. Please call Sandy Bobb at 503-879-2161 for an application or with any questions. Applications will be accepted until July 30, 2004. Selection and notification will be made by mid August and you will be notified if your child has been accepted or declined. Children with special needs are strongly encouraged to apply. Basketball Camp July 19-23, 2004 The K-5 Program is running a "Culture Camp" as part of our camp we are putting on a basketball camp the week of July 19 - 23. All Grand Ronde Tribal children leaving Kindergarten through fifth grade are in vited to join our week long basketball camp. To participate in the camp we need an application form, completely filled out, by Julyl6. Applications are available at the K-5 Building (beside the Grand Ronde School). The camp is free. Oregon Native American Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Undergraduate students in "good standing" attending an Oregon Uni versityCollege can apply to the 2004 Annual Oregon Native American Chamber of Commerce Scholarship.
