Dear Editor, This is a correction regarding the "All Indian Youth Basketball Tourna ment" in the June 15 issue of Smoke Signals. Chris Borquez is my grand son, not my son. His father is my son, Larry Borquez. I am an Elder in my 70s. It's highly unlikely I could have an 18 year-old son; thanks for the compliment anways, Regards, Esther LaBonte Borquez Dear Smoke Signals, What a wonderful surprise to open my paper (The Seattle Times) and read about how the Chinook Language is being revitalized through a program that teaches children the words and culture of their ancestors. I'm a retired preschool teacher and I know how fast little ones learn and retain what they have been taught. Both "thumbs up" to Tony Johnson and all teachers. They work hard with little pay, but I know they feel as I do. Teaching is a very rewarding profession. Mary Pat (Dowd) Lord Dear Editor: Let us remember President Ronald Reagan as the president who signed the document that restored the Grand Ronde Tribe to federal recognition on November 22, 1983. This document and a signature pen are on display in the Tribal Council Offices reception area in Grand Ronde. We exist as a recognized Tribal entity because of this document. It is a historical rel evance to all generations. President Reagan also signed documents which restored federal recog nition to other terminated Indian Tribes and these records are an impor tant part of his legacy. Sincerely, Claudette M. Parazoo Roll 2923 Correction: In the June 15 edition, Tribal member Veronica Gaston met Presi dent Ronald Reagan in 1984, not 1994. Tribal offices will be closed half a day (1 p.m. to 5 p.m.) on Friday, July 2 and all of Monday, July 5 in observance of Independence Day. mm PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE 9615 Grand Ronde Road, Grand Ronde, OR 97347 1-800-422-0232 FAX: 503-879-2173 www.grandronde.org BRENT MERRILL PUBLIC INFORMATION MANAGEREDITOR 503-879-2321 brentmerrillgrandronde.org JUSTIN PHILLIPS GRAPHIC DESIGNER 503-879-2190 lustin.phllllpsgrandronde.org fiiii n DEADLINE DATE ISSUE DATE Fri.,Jul. 2 JUL.
