Group will meet weekly through January at 11 a.m. at the Community Center. Meet ings will be monthly beginning February 6. If interested, please call Egypt at 503-879-2078 to register. A 30-minute ap pointment will be scheduled prior to the first meeting in January. Participants will need to purchase a pedometer prior to the January meeting. They will be available at cost through the Wellness Department. WHY: Incorporating more activity into one's daily routine results in health benefits similar to those seen in a structured exercise program. Daily walking combined with diet therapy is a useful means for obese individuals with diabetes and those who are at risk of developing diabetes to improve glucose sensitivity and to reduce body weight. C-02-10-006 The Petitioner, Marcella May Selwyn, on behalf of the Applicant, Maryalica Marcella Licona, a minor child, has petitioned the Court for a Change of Name for the minor child. Applicant allegedly desires to change his or her name to Mary Marcila Lopez, for the reason stated that: Applicant's last name differs from the last name of the parent or guardian and she wishes to assume the last name of the parent or guardian. The first reading of the proposed amendments was conducted at the October 9, 2002, Tribal Council meeting. Among other things, the proposed amendments: , ... (1) Substitute the title General Manager for the title Executive Officer; and (2) Clarify the General Manager's responsibilities by more clearly identifying which divisions, departments, committees, etc. the Gen eral Manager is responsible for overseeing and by deleting du ties that fall under the Finance Officer's responsibilities. Proposed Tribal Court Ordinance Amendment The Tribal Council, in consultation with the Tribal Attorney's Office, has adopted a technical amendment to the Tribal Court Ordinance. The technical amendment was adopted, on an emergency basis pend ing final adoption in accordance with the procedures set out in the Tribal Government Organization and Procedures Ordinance, at the November 20, 2002 Tribal Council Meeting. The purpose of the technical amendment is to clarify the term "self help remedies" in section (g)(2) of the Tribal Court Ordinance in a technical amendment to the Ordinance. Tribal Court Ordinance Sec tion (g)(2) has been amended as follows (added language is under lined): "The Oregon Commercial Code, except self-help remedies thereun der (such intended self-help remedies being those non-judicial rights and remedies against or with respect to Collateral not then within the control or possession of the secured party, the exercise of which by the secured party could cause to occur upon the Reservation a violation of the duty not to exercise nonjudicial remedies in a manner which could breach the peace), as may from time to time be amended, and Oregon statutory and common law of contracts are adopted as substantive law of the Tribe, except to the extent inconsistent with other Tribal law and the sovereign immunity of the Tribe. All reference to the "Secre tary of State" in the Oregon Commercial Code are deleted and replaced with "Tribal Court Clerk." The Fish & Wildlife Committee is currently seeking applications to fill a vacant position on the committee. This committee acts in an advisory capacity to Tribal Council and the Natural Resources Division on issues that may affect fish & wildlife, habitat and water quality. The commit tee meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. In order to apply for this position, individuals must be enrolled members of the Grand Ronde Tribe, shall be knowledgeable of Tribal ,and state laws and regulations affecting hunting, fishing and gathering rights and knowledgeable of the Tribal hunting and fishing area. In addition, the applicant shall not have been found guilty or have pleaded guilty to a federal, state or Tribal hunting, fishing or gathering violation within two years prior to appointment to the committee. The Grand Ronde Tribal Housing Authority has two Board Com missioners whose terms expire in March 2003. Anyone who is inter ested in serving in one of these positions and who has housing related experience to qualify for the position, is encouraged to attend the Janu ary Board meeting. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the Housing Authority office in Grand Ronde. Please call to confirm the date and time. This is an opportunity to: 1) observe how the board functions, 2) become acquainted with the types of issues that are regularly dis cussed, and 3) determine if you are seriously interested in such a position now or in the future. The three-year terms are on a rotating basis and expire each March. Both Tribal members and non-Tribal members are eligible to serve on the board and incumbents are eligible to reapply. Interested persons should have a demonstrated interest in housing and experience in the housing field in some capacity, such as: B affordable housing development property management B residential building construction B housing financing B housing planning B other housing related areas The board oversees all housing development, housing management and housing operations for the Tribe, and is responsible for housing policy decisions. The board currently meets at 5:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Housing Authority office in Grand Ronde.
