Annual Pow-WOW Highlights Eventful Year The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde's Annual Pow-wow was the largest ever in Grand Ronde bringing in an
estimated 15,000 visitors over three days - August 16,17 and 18. The Tribal pow-wow, which started with a handful of people and a couple of vendors down at the Elementary
School, has turned into a one of the largest annual Native gatherings on the west coast and is a showcase for the continued renewal of the people of the Tribes that make up
the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde.
A year of great accomplishments with many reasons to give thanks.

Spirit Mountain Casino feature started off the 2002 year for
Smoke Signals. A few names have changed in the interim
the search has begun for a new CEO but the casino still is
the number one visitor destination in the state and still suc
ceeding with skill and style. As the year marched on, Smoke Signals
followed the discussion as the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs
considered whether to open a casino off the reservation and closer to Port-
