Dear Smoke Signals,
Through this very difficult time, we would like to thank Brent Merrill
and his staff, Mark Mercier, Greg Hile, Jackie Whisler and Bobby Mercier
and Eagle Beak Singers for their help and support at Janesse and Lucien
Davidson's Memorial Service.
We would also like to express our gratitude and appreciation for the
support and concern of the community.

I would like to send a special thanks to Tribal Council and the Tribal

To the Grand Ronde Community:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the community of Grand
Ronde, the Spirit Mountain Community Fund Board of Directors and the
Grand Ronde Tribal Council for the exceptional experience of serving as
the 20012002 Hatfield Fellow. The Fellowship is held in high regard on
Capitol Hill and is the envy of many Tribal organizations and of course
this is due, in part, to the Tribe's reputation in Oregon and Senator Hatfield
himself.
It was truly an honor to serve and I would encourage the continuation
of this wonderful educational program for Tribal members throughout the
Northwest. There are no other Tribally-funded programs that send indi
viduals back to Washington, D.C. for 9 months and get the chance to
learn the legislative process and assist Tribes nationwide. In fact, I en
joyed it so much I stayed!

The Petitioner, Marcella May Sel wyn, on behalf of the Applicant, Maryalica
Marcel la Licona, a minor child, has petitioned the Court for a Change of
Name for the minor child. Applicant allegedly desires to change his or her
name to Mary Marcila Lopez, for the reason stated that: Applicant's last
name differs from the last name of the parent or guardian and she wishes to
assume the last name of the parent or guardian.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that any written response to this Order
by any party to this case shall be filed on or before January 2, 2003.
