Dear Tribal members,
Several changes are happening at the Health & Wellness Center &
Medical Clinic. We want to explain these things to all Tribal members
and Clients of the Health & Wellness Center.
Marjie Mascarinas, FNP has left us for a position with the Peace Corp.
Kathleen Marquart PA-C is on a temporary leave of absence.
Two new providers, Dr. Diane Pratt , our new Clinical Director, and
Luretta Rand, FNP have joined the staff. They are seeing most of the
patients previously seen by Marjie and Kathleen. Insurance contracts
and change over for providers varies in time requirements but should be
met by January 2003. All providers, Van Roper, FNP, Dr. W. James, Dr.
Pratt and L. Rand, FNP will be fully functioning to capacity by November
1, 2002. Our hours are 8 a.m. 5 p.m.
A new way of documenting patient visits is also being put into place.
This is our new EMR or Electronic Medical Record system. This system is
computer driven and will eliminate the need for paper charts. It will im
prove the accuracy and efficiency of documentation and coordinate pa
tient care between departments within the Center; lab, radiology, phar
macy, dental, etc.
Changes in systems can bring confusion and sometimes increased de
lays in client services, for a short time. Old information may need to be
updated, new histories filled out, phone numbers checked etc. It will be
very helpful to us if you would always bring in your personal identifica
tion, insurance cards, co-pays or payments, etc. Because we have a
limited number of appointments available, we do try to call every patient
the day prior to hisher scheduled appointment.
We would also like to remind everyone that we do have "No Show" policy,
so please remember to cancel an appointment if you must, so someone else
can be offered your appointment time. Not calling to cancel an appoint
ment is considered a "No Show." Two missed appointments in any three
month period requires that a patient be counseled by myself, Medical Ser
vices Manager, Linda Beck, at the clinic before any further appointments
for any reason will be made. My number is 503-879-2098
We apologize for any inconvenience these changes may cause. They
will be completed in as short as time as possible. We appreciate everyone's
support during this time of transition.

The Gym Auditorium facility is nearing completion with only a mini
mum number of items still needing attention. First and foremost, we
need to have posted all gym use rules, waivers of responsibility of Tribe to
users and evacuation plans posted in a permanent manner. Next, the
Gym Use Agreement needs to go through final approval prior to opening
up the gym for after hours and weekend use. The agreement is in draft
form now. A group of Tribal members and staff have met three times to
discuss and establish the basic use rules, to draft the use agreement, and
forward to Legal and to identify equipment needed for the gym. I would
like to thank those people who have taken time to meet and help with this
work. All Tribal members are welcome to provide suggestions and input
on ideas they have for the gym auditorium use. At this time scheduling
for the gym is conducted through the Education Division. Contact num
ber is 503-879-2275. And last, construction tasks that need to be finished
include refinishing the stage floor, installing mirrors in the exercise room
and posting proper use signs for equipment in the exercise room. We
appreciate everyone's patience while going through this completion pro
cess. Marion Mercier,
Education Director
