HeadStart Program Federal Review A HeadStart Federal Review Team spent the week of June 17 on site at the Grand Ronde Pre-school HeadStart program to determine if all pro gram svstems are ODeratine effectively. Continued errant fundine is based on findings in the comprehensive review that was conducted in the areas of governance, management, program design, health & child development services, family & community partnerships and in facilities & transporta tion. It is my pleasure to announce that our Tribal program passed this scrutinizing review with flying colors. Words used by the five member re view team (pictured below) to describe the facets of our program included: effective systems, excellent coordination and order, business scorecard is an outstanding tool for tracking improvement, effective communication is evi dent, evidence of inventory accountability, marvelous facilities, impressive waiting list system, comprehensive recruitment policy, great interaction be tween children & staff, files organized and make sense, commendable work ing relations between the Tribal clinic and the program, splendid nutrition program, meticulous and detailed transportation schedule maintained, and the program is clearly following the performance standards. The review team praised our Tribal Council on their participation with the program and the commitment they have made to the HeadStart program. We did have two findings in the review that blemished an otherwise perfect rating. The findings were in the area of finance. There were approximately 80 finance items reviewed and 2 areas of non-compliance were noted regard ing failure to file USDA reports in a timely manner which could result in loss of reimbursement funding for two months and failing to maintain a report record within the three year review period. The Pre-school & HeadStart Director and staff are to be commended for not only this excellent rating on the Federal Review Report but also for operating an all day, year around program that provides an outstanding & comprehensive service program to children at the center. The Education division and the Tribe are fortunate to have such a dedicated and compe tent team working in the Early Childhood Education Program. Thank you and Congratulations to the ECE Team. laSsfi Jul Wx8 I Lucien & Janesse Davidson Memorial Services for Lucien Moxley Davidson and Janesse Emily Davidson, both of Grand Ronde, were held on Saturday, July 13 in the atrium of the Tribal Governance Center of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde.
