Willamette Falls Lamprey Harvest Regulations
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has changed its Pacific
lamprey harvest regulations, effective this season. Commercial harvest is
no longer allowed at Willamette Falls. Personal use harvest for both Tribal
and non-Tribal people is allowed with no state harvest limit. The open
fishing area is the Willamette River at Willamette Falls on the east side of
the falls only, excluding the Horseshoe Area at the peak of the falls. Har
vest gear is restricted to hand or hand-powered tool only. Harvest is open '
during daylight hours on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, from June 1
through July 31.
Non-Tribal members are required to carry a state-issued permit. Per
mits may be obtained from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife,
free of charge, by contacting their Clackamas office at 17330 SE Evelyn
Street, Clackamas, OR 97014, telephone 503-657-2000. The state has
authorized the Tribe to allow Tribal members to harvest without a state
permit. However, Tribal members will need to carry their Tribal enroll
ment cards while harvesting. We are requesting that Tribal members
report their catch to Natural Resources. If any Elders would like us to
obtain some eels for them, please contact Natural Resources at 503-879-2424.
Reserved lamprey will be distributed during the salmon distribu
tion. For more information, contact the Natural Resources office at 503-879-2424.
