r JANUARY 1, 2002 Smoke Signals AVE TTDHT' MS JU1L 11 VUli Participating in Royalty is an excellent chance for young Tribal women to represent the Tribe in a positive way. All interested girls must be able to meet the following guidelines in order to be eligible for the Veterans' Royalty Court: a Girls must be enrolled members of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde. a Participants should have never been married and have no children, a All girls must be enrolled in and currently attending a public or private school. B All girls participating must be drug and alcohol free. a They must have one year of pow-wow experience. B They must have their own regalia, or be able to make their own regalia before the application deadline. Participants must be willing and able to attend all Veterans' events and be prepared to represent the Veterans and the Tribe, B Must have a parent or sponsor willing to participate and attend activi ties with the girls and provide transportation. B Royalty Court participants and their parent or sponsor must attend all required events (pow-wows, parades, fund-raisers, organizational meet ings and others). Absences can be prearranged with the Royalty Commit tee Advisor. Three unexcused absences will result in disqualification from Royalty Court. Please note that all participants receive 1 point for every event. Royalty Court participants are expected to stay for the duration of the events. This includes helping setup for events such as meetings and parades, as well as dancing during Grand Entry and staying until the flags are retired unless pre-approved with the Royalty Advisor. Participants are expected to speak In front of large groups of people. Royalty Court par ticipants must be willing and able to dance. Remember: You are all part of a team and are expected to treat yourselves, running mates and others with respect at all times. B As of July 9, 2000 girls must be 9 to 13 years of age for Junior Veterans Royalty Queen; and 1 4 to 1 8 years of age for Senior Veterans Royalty Queen. B Entries must be received by Tuesday, March 5, 2002. B A mandatory meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5 at the Veterans' office, located in the modular offices by Education. Participating In the Royalty Court Is an excellent chance for young Tribal women to represent the Tribe in a positive way. It does require commitment and time, but Is a tremendous honor. There will be dance, protocol, craft and speaking classes that will help prepare yourself to be on Royalty.. Any young lady who would like to participate in Royalty to gain experi ence may as a Princess and not compete this year for a Queen position. We encourage any interested young lady who Is a Tribal member, between the ages of 5 and 21, to Join us. Participants must be an enrolled member of the Grand Ronde Tribe, be alcohol and drug free, be childless and never married. If school age, must be attending school (private or public) full-time. Girls must be within the following age categories by January 15, 2002: Miss Tiny Tot 5-8 years of age Junior Miss Grand Ronde 9-14 years of age Senior Miss Grand Ronde 1 5-1 8 years of age Miss Grand Ronde 19-21 years of age Participants must have their own regalia. It is not the responsibility of the Royalty Board, Tribal Council, or any other Tribal program to provide. Members of the Royalty Court are not paid positions. Although, the chosen Queens and Princesses will receive motel fees and a set amount for travel expenses for attending required events. For all fund-raisers and activities that Royalty is involved in, the court and their families or spon sors are required to participate. All the members on the Royalty Court must show good judgement by not participating in any activities that could bring adverse publicity to themselves or the Tribe. All members of Royalty must comply with the Royalty guidelines and the Royalty agreement. The deadline for submitting a application is January 1 5, 2002.
