Kloosh Tillicum, Thank you June Olson, Cultural Resources department, and the Tribal Council for the opportunity to take part in the first ceremony at the Willamette Meteorite in New York City. The meteorite is displayed in the American Museum of Natural His tory, New York City, New York. We flew nonstop from Portland to New York City and returned on a nonstop flight. Our people were greeted cor dially and received a reception and private access to the meteorite. To come into a personal contact with the Willamette Meteorite is an unusual experience of wonder and for me a spiritual access to the uni verse. This is an object that traveled through the darkness of space for time uncalculated to land in our beautiful Willamette Valley. Our ancestors regarded this as sacred. Do we know that Willamette comes from an Indian word meaning River of Life? So the Willamette Meteorite is a symbol of sacred power, for those who hold that sense of the unknown, Saghalie Tyee. Claudette Parazoo Tillicum 2923 Tally of Suggestions Completed from Tribal Member Community Meetings Tribal members that attended late April's Community Meetings in Eu gene, Tualatin and Grand Ronde ended each meeting by placing col ored dots by the suggestions or com ments they agreed with most. There were more than 340 suggestions or comments generated in the small group meetings. Total attendance was 85 (excluding assigned staff and Tribal Council). Combining the results from the three sites, the top priorities were: D satellite offices II buying land near Grand Ronde D non-member spouse health cover age D equalization of benefits regardless of income or residence D youth and family recreation pro grams and facilities D tutoring and counseling children B review of enrollment policies D water development B increasing the endowment funds B development of Tribal bank B home healthassistant living care B scholarships and vocational train ing While the number of Tribal mem bers that participate in these meet ings is usually small, they have been valuable since members are able to discuss issues with staff, and each other, and to ask Council member's questions. Opinion surveys are another means for collecting Tribal member options. The 240 page final report of the Social Economic Survey, pre pared by Northwest Economic Asso ciates, is now available for review at the Government Center's Planning office. The survey included 165 questions and had a 47 response rate. (1,0932,337). A summary of the results was mailed to all Tribal members in April. The intent of this survey was to get a general picture of member opinions on a wide vari ety of subjects. You may reach the Policy and Planning Department at 503-879-2260. ill 01 X C CO o Information Sharing Tribal member and Small Business Development Specialist Perri McDaniel (left) addresses a group of Tribal members at the Grand Ronde Community Meeting at the Tribe's Community Center.
