By Justin Phillips The Spirit Mountain Community Fund has once again proved the motto of "giving back to the commu nity" is real. The fund's latest grant went to the Health Dynamics Hospice in McMin nville. Grand Ronde Tribal Chair Kathryn Harrison recently presented a check for $150,000 to Lea New of Health Dynamics as a way to help the hospice's goal of reaching $1.5 million in foundation endowments. "The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde are pleased to present this check to Health Dynamics Hospice," said Harrison. "Our people are com mitted to affording dignity and self sufficiency for all people, just as this hospice is empowering patients to make decisions for themselves for as long as possible, while respecting the dignity of each patient to the end of their life." The organization serves patients within a 30-mile ra dius of the McMinnville area. The services of hospice also include a be reavement program for children and adults who have lost a loved one. Health Dynamics is dedicated to bringing quality to the lives of all people requesting special care re gardless of their ability to pay. Over the years, the endowment will return approximately $75,000 in interest annually to their budget. "With our Tribe, we like to plan ahead," said Harrison. "We want to leave life a better place for future generations. And that's what this does. It's a joining of hands." Health Dynamics Hospice served more than 200 patients and families last year. The hospice has received three grants from the Spirit Mountain Community Fund that totaled $30,000. "Hospice is something that is im portant to us," said Harrison. The Spirit Mountain Community Fund is now more than four years old and has invested more than $10 mil lion dollars in 11 western counties.B - v fe y ' V; 4 Bear Tracks - This year's Spirit Mountain Casino float entry into the Rose Festival's annual Grand Floral Parade won the Queen's Award. This year's float featured bears, salmon and an eagle and was titled "Spirit of the Itsxwut Spirit of the Bear."
