Harold Mercier
Feb. 12, 1909 - March 6, 2001
Tribal Elder Harold Gaylan
Mercier, 92, of Grand Ronde
passed away Tuesday, March 6.
He was born in Grand Ronde
arid moved to Taft, spending
many years in the Siletz River
area. He was a logger. Harold
married Velma (Hudson) in
1929. She passed on in 1998.
Harold loved hunting both here and at Sawtooth Creek Camp in East
ern Oregon near Burns. He really enjoyed telling his hunting stories to
his grandkids and their kids. After he began spending a lot of time at
home due to his health, he liked having company but the best times for
him were when Joann and family gathered him up to take him for a ride
in the "limo" on the roads in the mountains.
Survivors include his son, Dean of Grand Ronde; three grandchildren;
eight great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren.
A rosary and service were held at St. Michael Catholic Church in Grand
Ronde, where he was a member.
Velma and Harold.
Hunting in Eastern Oregon in 1976.
