MAY 1, 2000 ADVERTISEMENT FOR PUBLIC COMMENT Alternatives for the proposed KATSUK THIN LOGGING UNIT GRAND RONDE RESERVATION Public safety meeting: May 17 A focus group is going to be held in Grand Ronde. The purpose is to gather input about public safety and concerns in the community. Yamhill County Sheriffs department is facilitating this event which will be held on Wednes day, May 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Community Center. Child Care Providers Scholarships available for training Child Care Information Services (CCIS) has scholarships available to Polk County child care providers to help subsidize training costs if you are unable to afford the training you seek. This funding can be put toward the cost of training or help to pay for a substitute provider to take over while you attend the training. CCIS needs Polk County child care providers willing to provide care for children, while parents attend community classes. For more information contact CCIS in Polk County at 623-0649. Exhibit recounts Indian boarding school experience The Oregon State Archives, located at 800 Summer Street NE in Salem, will host the exhibit "They Sacrificed for Our Survival: The Indian School Boarding School Experience," through May 8. The exhibit includes stories of Indian boarding school survivors told in the oral tradition of their ancestors and through historical photographs and stu dent artwork dating from the late 1800s through the 1950s. The photo graphs illustrate several of the large, off-reservation federal schools Carlisle in Pennsylvania, Chilocco in Oklahoma, and Chemawa in Oregon as well as mission schools in Washington and Idaho.
