Elders Committee sponsors crab feed
Per capita tan info
For those tribal members ages 14 through 17 who received a per capita
gaming dividend the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde will authorize,
only under the following conditions, a withdrawal from their account to pay
income taxes incurred because of the dividend.
D The tribal member must submit a written request to the Finance Of
ficer for withdrawal to pay income taxes.
D The individual tribal member must prepare an individual tax return
and submit a copy to the Finance Officer.
D The Tribe's Finance department will issue checks payable to the IRS
and other State Revenue offices if applicable, and mail them to the tribal
member. It is the tribal member's responsibility to mail the checks to the
taxing authorities.
D If the tribal member has other income, the withdrawal will be limited
to the lessor of the actual tax liability or the tax liability associated with
the gaming dividend.
For questions, call Val Sheker at (503) 879-2321 or 1-800-422-0346.
NOTICE TO TRIBAL MEMBERS
If you are currently receiving Retirement, Part B Reimbursements, Tribal
SSI or Disability or Elders SSI consider direct deposit! Direct deposit is
a safe, easy way for your payments to be sent directly to your bank or credit
union. It is safer than receiving a check and it will be in your account on the
day checks are mailed from the tribal offices.
Any tribal member receiving the benefits listed above are eligible for direct
deposit. We have over 250 people on direct deposit at this time and expect
more this year. If you are interested or have been thinking about it, please
call Dakota Whitecloud at 1-800-422-0232, ext. 2327 for more information.
About 45 Elders enjoyed fresh crab
at the Community Center on Janu
ary 28. The Crab Feed is becoming
an annual event where many of our
Elders gather to share a good meal
of the delicious shellfish as well as
salads and condiments.
Special thanks to Val Grout, who
braved the icy Tillamook roads to
bring back 60 crab to the eager crowd.
The Elders Committee sponsored
the purchase of the crab, and com
mittee Chair Sharon Hanson fixed
salad, hard-boiled eggs, cheese and
crackers, olives, and pickles to round
out the feast.
Hanson said that the Elders came
away with their fill of crab, and many
helped with the preparation and
clean-up.
The Elders' next outing will be on
February 25, when they will visit the
Hallie Ford Museum of Art in Salem.

Feed event.
Nanitch Sahallie Youth Treatment Facility in Keizer invites tribal Elders
to join them and the clients for lunch one day per month. The clients
help participate in setting up the dining tables and decorating for the
"theme of the month." In February, the theme will be Valentine's Day.
There is a sign-up sheet at the Elders' Mealsite in Grand Ronde for
those who wish to attend. If you would like to attend lunch at Nanitch,
but haven't been able to sign-up, please call Kathy Tom at (503) 390
5904. Upcoming lunch dates are: Feb. 11, April 14, and May 12.
