If you can read, you already have
what it takes to be a SMART VOLUNTEER
SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) is a book and reading program for kids in
kindergarten through second grade. As a SMART volunteer, you spend an hour a
week in two 30-minute sessions reading with a child. From you, the kids learn that
reading is fun and school is an adventure. Join the SMART program and change
the world in convenient 30 minute installments. Grand Ronde Elementary School
needs SMART volunteers on Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:15 until 10:15 and at
11:45 until 12:45. To volunteer call (503) 474-1252 or call Grand Ronde Elemen
tary at (503) 879-5210. Thank You!
Broaden your skills by
learning a foreign language
The Education department would like to invite everyone interested in
learning Spanish or French, or students who are having difficulty learn
ing in the classroom, to take advantage of the fantastic self-paced Rosette
Stone software soon to be installed in Education's new computer lab.
By incorporating multisensory learning like we all used as babies to
learn English, it makes learning easy and fun, and enables the learner
to speak and read the language from beginning levels to college fluency.
Bilingual people have an advantage in qualifying for a broader spec
trum of jobs, with better pay and benefits. Many employers in the service-oriented
industries are looking for staff who are bilingual. Call the
Tribal Education Office at 879-2275 to find out how to broaden your
skills, and improve your marketability to future employers!
