Your concern was touching and very much appreciated. Sincerely, Bob Mercier and family All-Indian Rodeo to be held in Grand Ronde Spirit Mountain Casino and the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde are sponsoring an All-Indian Rodeo on Saturday, August 21 at 2 p.m. The Rodeo will be held at the new Spirit Mountain Arena located by the Casino. Any person interested in signing up for an event can contact Marsha Farley with P-F Rodeos at (916) 726-2436. By Arlene Beck Elders' Committee Chair Grand Ronde tribal Elders hosted their first Honor Day on July 16-17. All indica tions point to this being a huge success from visitor comments and compliments. The event was held at St. Michael's Church and in cluded banquet meals and bingo. Ann and Raleigh Anderson were honored as the eldest man and woman, as well as the longest couple married. Now comes the hard part: thanking the multitudes of people who helped and par ticipated. The committee would like to thank: Tribal Coun cil for funding; Marce Norwest and the Honor Guard; Bobby Mercier and Eagle Beak Drum; Royalty for signing the Lord's Prayer at din ner, helping to decorate, serving food, passing out gifts, and other chores; Merle Leno for announc ing and calling bingo; Jeremy Haller and Boon Grout for cook ing the salmon; Penny DeLoe and the terrific kitchen crew for the great job they did with little equipment and work space; Wellness staff for three days of hard work during this K ;: d4 ' 4 The Elders' Honor Day was hosted by the Tribe's Elders was attended by some 250 honorees from Yakima, Coos Coquille Lower Umpqua, Siletz and Warm Spring tribes as well as locally. Special thanks to the tribal El ders who donated gifts and the hand-made gifts they worked on. If anyone was missed, we apologize. You all have our thanks and our love. I would also like to give many thanks to other members of the El ders Committee, as well as tribal members and spouses who were in volved in making our Honor Day special: Sharon Hanson, registra tion; Ruby Bigoni, hospitality; Wilma Fendwick, decorations; Clarise Ellison, gifts; Leonette Galligher, Royalty; Tom LaChance, setting up tables and chairs; Bernadine Shriver, plants; and Diane Lane, gathering hotel information. All other Council members were present. HEALTHCOMMUNITY SERVICES SUBCOMMITTEE B Grand Ronde Community Signage. Ed Pearsall moved, Ed Larsen seconded to approve the use of tribal property on Hwy. 18 and 22 with the exact location to be determined at a later date, to place Grand Ronde Com munity signs. Also to provide $2,000 matching funds for production and installation of the signs. Motion carried unanimously. TRIBAL GOVERNMENT, MANAGEMENT & BUDGET SUBCOMMITTEE D Section 8(a) Certification of Grand Ronde Industrial Develop ment LLC. Bob Haller moved, Mark Mercier seconded to adopt Resolu tion No. 090-99 supporting Grand Ronde Industrial Development LLC's application for Small Business Association 8(a) certification. Motion carried 5-0-0. B Policy Prohibiting Use of Tribal Resources for Election Cam paigning. Ed Pearsall moved, Mark Mercier seconded to adopt Resolu tion No. 091-99 that (1) establishes a policy to prohibit the use of tribal resources by Tribal Council members for re-election campaigning; (2) in structs the Executive Officer to ensure that a similar policy is in place for tribal employees; and (3) requests that the Board of Directors for Spirit Moun tain Development Corporation and Spirit Mountain Gaming, Inc. adopt a similar policy for their employees. Motion carried 5-0-0. D Polk County Inspector Contract. Bob Haller moved, Ed Larsen sec onded to adopt Resolution No. 092-99 that (1) approves amendments to the Polk County inspector contract by extending the term for three months and requires the inspector to provide quality control services; and (2) autho rizes the Executive Officer, with the assistance of the Tribal Attorney, to negotiate and finalize the amendments. Motion carried 5-0-0. Booth space available at pow-wow for programs and committees The Pow-wow Committee is offering booth space for tribal programs and committees to display information during the pow-wow. A drawing will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 19 at the pow-wow grounds. All programs and committees present will receive their booth space at that time.
