December 7, 1997 SMOKE SIGNALS "1 3 WW , Donald Ray Hodgson Donald Hodgson died Nov. 17, 1997 in his home, lie was 32, born on June 30, 1965 in Corning, CA. He graduated in 1983 from Aptos High School, and served in the Navy from 1983 to 1987, stationed in San Diego, CA. Donald and Chcri LaChance were married on De cember 14, 1985. The couple moved to Day ton in 1987. Don worked for the Frcightliner Corp. in Portland for nine years, and was a member of the Dayton Christian Church and American Legion. He enjoyed outdoor sports including fishing, hunting, water and snow skiing, and motorcycle riding. Survivors include his wife Cheri; two daughters Christina and Brigitte Hodgson; mother and father-in-law Tom and Charlcne LaChance; sister-in law Toni Stahl; brother-in-law Tom LaChance; and two grandmoth ers, Faye Sudweeks and Marjorie Hodgson. Don is preceded in death by his mother, Dorain Hodgson. A private family interment was held at the Tribal Cemetery. All tribal members are always welcome to attend. The move of meeting day to Saturdays is a step aimed at accommodating the needs of tribal members. LANGUAGE AND ORAL HISTORY PROJECTS: Tribal members who know Elders who should be considered priorities for either the language or oral history projects contact the Board's Office at 1-800-422-0232, extensions 2084, or 2085. Housing Authority recruits Board Commissioners The Housing Authority is recruiting persons interested in serving on the Board of Commissioners. Two positions will expire as of March 28, 1998. The term of office is three years. These two positions are open to both tribal and non-tribal members. One or both of the two Commissioners is expected to re-apply. Anyone who is interested in serving on the Board should have a demonstrated interest in housing and experience in the housing field in some capacity such as: affordable housing development, property management, residential building construc tion, housing financing, housing planning, or other related areas. The Board oversees all housing management and operations for the Tribe, and is responsible for policy-making decisions. The Board currently meets approximately ev ery three weeks on Monday evenings at 6 p.m. at the Community Center in Grand Ronde. Interested applicants should send a letter outlining their interest and qualifications to Linda Layden, Director, Grand Ronde Tribal Housing Authority, 96 1 5 Grand Ronde Road, Grand Ronde, Oregon, 97347. All letters need to be received by January 5 to be considered. Applicants will be contacted after that date.
