May 1, 1997 SMOKE SIGNALS 5 Hunter Safety Course The Fish and Wildlife Department will hold its first hunter safety class of the year on May 12, 14, 19, and 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Community Center. There is no age limit for th class, but will it be limited to 10 students. The course will consist of four 3-hour classes. No one between the ages of 12 to 18 may hunt without a hunter safety certificate. You must have a certificate in order to obtain an adult license. To register call Karen Larsen at 879-2376 by May 7. r Mother's Day Luncheon; Friday, May 9 The Dental Department and Hu man Services Division will be sponsoring a free Mother's Day Lun cheon on Friday, May 9 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Community Center. This luncheon will be for mothers of babies less than two years old, and expectant mothers. There will be presentations on infant and baby care, free drawings and prizes, and much more. Child care will be provided. Grandmothers, sisters, aunts, or other child care providers are welcome to accompany you as a guest. Please RSVP by calling 1-800-775-0095' or 879 2020, so we know how many to plan for. Committee seeks members Change in Clinic walk-ins The Fish and Wildlife Committee is now accepting ap plications for three committee members. The Committee is adding two new positions which are two-year terms. They are also filling one current position which has one year re maining. The Committee is involved in overseeing tribal fish and wildlife issues such as hunting and fishing regula tions, hunter's safety, subsistence salmon distribution, the shooting gallery, and other activities. Anyone wishing to join our vital and interesting commit tee can pick up an application in the Natural Resources Di vision or call Karen Larsen at (503) 879-2376. The Medical Clinic will be closed the first Friday morn ing of each month. The new walk-in time is from 8: 10 to 9 a.m. on Monday through Thursday. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause our patients. mmmmm Camp out in Sweet Home Tribal members are invited to a week long camp out near Cougar Rock. The Sweet Home Ranger District will be clearing a parcel of land to enhance the camas growing in the area. Besides spending a week in the great outdoors, this will be a great opportunity for tribal members to meet people working for the forest service, identify other kinds of plants, dig some camas and collect seeds. The camp out will be held June 23 to July 3. If you and your family would like to attend or if you have further ques tions, please call June Olson at 1-800-422-0232, ext. 2249. Free weatherization The Community Action Agency of Yamhill County, Inc. (YCAP) Weatherization Program provides free weatheriza tion services to low-income residents (homeowners and rent ers) of Yamhill County. Income eligible households must be at or below 125 of poverty guidelines listed below. Currently, applications are being accepted from Native American households. If your application is approved, it may be processed immediately due to the lack of house holds on the waiting list. The funds used to weathcrize your home are provided by the federal government in grant form. There is no cost to the renter or homeowner, nor is there a lien placed on the property. The sole purpose of this program is to lower en ergy usage and therefore, help lower your utility bills. Weatherization services may include caulking, door weather-stripping, attic insulation, wall insulation, floor in sulation, and sometimes furnace efficiency modifications and storm windows. I enjoyed meet ing you. I would also like to say thank you to the tribal TFAP people for sharing their Portland site with me; the Chemeketa Adult Education Program for the use of their classroom; and to Frank Merrill and Lane Community Col lege for providing space for me when I visited.
