July 15, 1996 SMOKE SIGNALS 3 Council appoints members to Cultural Heritage Society Kwelth Tahlkie Cultural Heritage Soci ety was formed last spring. Tribal Council appointed six members to the Board, after reviewing all of the applications. The mem bers are: Annabclle "Peachie" Hamm, Marie Schmidt, and Dale Archibald. The Board voted Pam Warren as Chairman, June Olson as Vice-Chair, and Claudette Parazoo as SecretaryTreasurer. Kathryn Harrison is the Tribal Council liaison. The Board was established to address many cultural issues pertaining to the Tribe, including: preserving and perpetuating the heritage and culture of the Grand Ronde Tribe; providing facilities for the safe storage display of articles and artifacts relating to the culture of the Grand Ronde Tribe; providing educational opportunities to students and scholars interested in the study of Grand Ronde tribal history and heritages; and ensuring the cultural contributions of the first inhabitants of Western Oregon receive proper recognition. Culture and Heritage Society; logo contest entries by July 1 9 The Kwelth Tahlkie Culture and Heritage Society would like to an nounce that they are in need of your help! They need an artistic tribal mem ber to design the Society's logo. This logo will be used in the form of an official stamp, as an embosser and for business cards and letterhead. Please create the logo in the form of a circle and have it represent our culture, heri tage, our history andor the impor tance of the preservation of our past. There will be a $100 prize for the artist of the logo that is chosen. The deadline for entries is July 19. The winner will be featured in the August 1st issue of the Smoke Signals. Please include with your entry: your name, address and phone number so that they may contact you as soon as the logo is picked. Good luck to all! Culture camp held in August Konaway Nika Tillicum camp will be held at Southern Oregon State College and Rogue Community College in Ashland, Oregon.
