I Housing Board meeting update The first meeting of the Housing Author ity Board of Commissioners was held on April 22. Robert Watson was elected as Chair of the Board. Linda Laydcn was elected as Executive Director and Financial Director. Rob Greene was elected as Sec retary. In addition, by-laws for governance and regulation of the business of the Au thority were adopted. Announcements included that HUD of ficially has recognized the Grand Ronde Tribal Housing Authority (GRTHA). At the May 6 meeting, the Board adopted a Resolution authorizing and directing the submission of an application to HUD for 15 units of low income housing. The Tribe previously understood from HUD that, as a new Housing Authority, we would receive approximately 50 units of housingundcr the Indian Housing Program. Because of reductions in funding levels, the application limits the maximum to 15 units. Existing housing authorities may only ap ply for 10 units. Because of the low level of funding, the application will be limited to the con struction of low-income rental units for El ders near the Tribal Center. None of the details of the design have been determined at this time. There is a waiting list, but in terested Elders arc encouraged to contact Bryan Lariglcy to determine if they meet the income guidelines. Bryan can be reached at 879-2467 or 1-800-422-0232.
