Housing Authority to be established UThe Housing Department is recruiting tribal members interested in serving on the Board of Commissioners to the Housing Authority. Bazaar provides a look at homemade gifts The annual Holiday Craft Bazaar was held at St. Michael's Church in Grand Ronde on November 17 and 18. Local craftspeople came to sell their homemade items. The Pow wow Committee sold Indian tacos at lunchtime. Among the items available were handcrafted wreaths, candles, leather items, and carvings. There were traditional Christmas baked goods along with ornaments and other Christmas delights. Other items included potholders, blan kets, pillows, jewelry, dreamcatchers, keychains, and more. The participants included Sam Henny and Sarah Harvey, John David Hawks, Bernadine Schriver, Camille Mercier, Kim Mueller, Donnette Spaulding, Norma Lee, LaVerne Hosford, Judy Hook, Leonette Galligher, Roberta Parazoo, Myrna Brandon, Simone Copley, Ida Paterson, Ellen Fisher, Tammy Garrison, Janet Christenson, and Joseph Frecrow. Also, some of the tribal elders sold crafts at their own table. -V ..- -Lkl Dorothy Greene, Dorothy Lawe, and Ivanetta Cook sell their creations at the bazaar. The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde will be estab lishing a Housing Authority within the next several months. This Authority will be similar to a non-profit corporation, and will require a Board of Commissioners to oversee all housing management and operations for the Tribe. The Board will consist of five to seven members. Any one who is interested in serving on the Board should have a demonstrated interest in housing and experience in the housing field in some capacity, such as: affordable hous ing development, property management, residential build ing construction, housing financing, housing planning, or other related areas. The Board will be responsible for policy-making decisions, and will meet approximately every two weeks. Spirit Mountain Casino Visitors to Spirit Mountain Casino will enjoy a variety of special features th is hoi iday season, from Christmas spe cials in the buffet and at Spirit Mountain Outfitters to a New Year's Eve Super Bingo Celebration. Patrons of Coyote's, the Casino's buffet restaurant, will enjoy special holiday cuisine on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Executive Chef Frank Moragas is prepar ing a menu which will include traditional Christmas favor ites of entrees, side dishes, and desserts. Spirit Mountain Outfitters, the casino's retail store, will be featuring several limited edition holiday items, includ ing a long-sleeve green henley shirt with the casino logo embroidered in gold and tan, a denim vest with an embroi dered logo and three deluxe t-shirt designs featuring the logo in metallic foil on the front. The tees are available for $8, the gold foil for $14, the long-sleeve henley for $22.50, and the denim vest is priced at $45. A gold coin keychain is also available for $6. Limited-edition Christmas ornaments will also be on sale for the holidays, said Tammy Cook, Guest Services Manager. Gift certificates can now be purchased at Spirit Moun tain Outfitters for items at the retail store, meals in the buf- Interested applicants should send a letter outlining their interest and qualifications to Linda Layden, Tribal Hous ing Program, Grand Ronde Tribe, 96 1 5 Grand Ronde Road, Grand Ronde, Oregon 97347. All letters need to be re ceived by December 15. All applicants will be contacted prior to the end of the year, and selections will be made in January. The Housing Department will also continue the use of the Housing Advisory Board. Its purpose will be to pro vide tribal member input in the design of housing programs and projects, and will be more detail-oriented than the broader policy work of the Board of Commissioners. Mem bers will be recruited for the Housing Advisory Board at a later date. celebrates holidays fet, deli, or snack bar. They also may be redeemed for cash for gaming. Beginning December 1 , the retail store will begin its new promotion, "Spirit Mountain Outfitters VIP Club." Mem bers will receive a credit-card type card which they can present for a hole punch every time they make a purchase of $5 or more in the store. After ten punches, they will receive 30 off of their next total purchase. The promo tion will run for at least six months. The special New Year's Eve Super Bingo will be held on December 3 1 at the casino, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Payouts will be 15 games paying $2,000 and one blackout for $10,000 or a new Chevy Lumina. Tickets for this special session will go on sale December 1 and will cost $100 each. Prices will go up after Decem ber 17. Only 500 tickets will be sold. Patrons of the ca sino can enter their names for weekly drawings throughout December for free passes to the New Year's Eve Celebra tion. Drawings will be held every Wednesday.
