March 3, 1995 Page 2 Tribal Life Smoke Signals Elders' Spotlight Martha Mercier enjoys the rural Grand Ronde life K 1 Martha, her sisters, and friends, Martha Hudson Mercier was born April 11, 1910 to John and Hattie Hudson. She was the thirteenth child. Martha Married Hubert Mercier and had six children: Darrell, Win ston, Crystal, Frank, Lcnnis and Dennis. Winston passed away in 1978. Martha has 21 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and three great, great grandchildren. Advisory committee to meet at grade school A meeting of the Northwest Polk Area Advisory Committee will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 7 at the Grand Ronde Elementary School. Later Martha took a job with the Agripac Cannery in Salem until she retired. Martha has two living sisters: Velma Mercier and IlaDowd. Oth ers, Pearl, Gertrude, Eula, and Emanual have passed away. Sincerely, Diana George In memory of: Clara Alice Spreadbrough S mtmQ I 4 t Clara Alice Spreadbrough, 49, passed away on Feb. 12, 1995 in Castle Rock, Washington. She was born July 6, 1945 in Hoquiam, Wash., to Bertha Cunningham and Charles Jackson. She lived in Castle Rock for 25 years. She is survived by her husband Lany Spreadbrough and their chil dren, Larry Jr., Dennis, Charles, Betty, and Reama. There are eight surviving brothers and sisters, and fifteen grandchildren. Clara worked as a homemaker, and enjoyed bow hunting, fishing, crafts, and ceramics. 1
