January 1995 Page 6 uman Services plans activities for '95 Submitted by Rebecca Crocker Smoke Signals Health and Human Services H "1 - n Cheryle Kennedy, HHS Division Manager The Human Services Division had many successes during 1994 and looks forward to this forthcoming year to continually improve our delivery system and the wellness of our community and tribal families. It's the goal of the Human Services Division to keep the tribal membership informed of the various activities occurring within the division. Some of the activities include: Self-governance: The Self Governance Team has successfully concluded the negotiations and now we're working, at full speed to plan for future construction of the Health and Wellness Center. Plans to expand health care services include a pharmacy and a laboratory. By incorporating these two services, it is estimated that the Tribe will reduce its costs while increasing the quality of care to tribal members. Community Health Survey: The Division mailed out Community Health Surveys into Willamina, Sheridan, and Grand Ronde to be responded by non-tribal members. The survey information will be used to determine if the non-tribal community is interested in utilizing the new Health and Wellness Clinic. Vocational Rehabilitation Services: The Division announces that the Tribe has tentatively been notified that we will be able to offer vocational rehabilitation services to tribal members within the six county service area. It is anticipated that this program will begin the first quarter of 1995. Announcements will be sent to all tribal members when it becomes operational. It is anticipated that the Tribe will be working in conjunction with the state to provide these services to disabled Native Americans. For more information contact Rebecca Crocker, HSD Administrative Assistant at extension 2003. Dentist: The division has been conducting interviews forthe dentist position and hopes to finalize the selection by February. Currently, we have Dr. Dexter, a Klamath tribal member, here on a temporary part-time basis. The hygienist services provided by Linda Mann are on-going. During this interim the dental office requests that clients call to schedule all appointments. Clinic Component Coordinator: Dr. Glen Gerritz, Clinic Director Physician, has been named Clinic Component Coordinator, replacing Donna Brenneman, FNP. We welcome Dr. Gerritz to the management team of HSD and the DentalMedical Component. Family and Children Services Caseworker: Bonnie Malek, formally an adult outpatient counselor for the Tribe has been selectedasthe Family and Children Services Caseworker. She was with Chemical Dependency forovertwo years. Adult Out-patient Counselor: This is a vacant position in Chem ical Dependency. Personnel has released the ad for this position.
